BD is causing computer to shut off

I have been having random shut offs on my desktop and laptop. I mean it just turns off as if I pulled the plug. It did it again today and I decided to run an AV scan. When I did, it got to about 2% and did it again. I rebooted and it did it before it got fully booted. I rebooted. It fully booted. I went back to run a scan and it did it again at 2%. I went thru this process about 5 times with the same result. It appears the culprit is BD, but I have no clue why.
Most times when I reopen BD the protection is off.
Any suggestions to figure this out?
BD free as far as I can tell is up to date.
