Identity theft has been around for hundreds of years - probably much longer than historical records show - and the expansion of technology has aggravated this issue. The Internet, data breaches and your ever-growing digital footprint enable cyber-criminals and scammers to carry out digital identity fraud at scale.

What Is Digital Identity Theft?

Any digital identity theft definition includes a malicious actor that illegally acquires personal information (date of birth, social security number, credit card details etc.) and uses it for identity fraud (cloning credit cards, applying for loans, extorting the victim etc.).

Online, identity theft works largely as it does offline, with a remarkable difference. The massive volume of information attackers can find about you on the Internet and its level of detail makes their “job” much easier and significantly more lucrative.

Yes indeed, it's another milestone for the Bitdefender portfolio! Regarding its availability outside the U.S. market, it's too soon to tell at this stage. The development teams are making the final touches before the launch that is scheduled next month. The Expert Community is the first place to announce this new product. 😊

I went to the respective bitdefender websites and it seems some of the features are same in both bitdefender digital identity & bitdefender identity theft protection.

What are the basic differences between both of them.

Although some of their functions overlap, such as Dark Web and Social Media monitoring, they target different things. Bitdefender Digital Identity Protection monitors your digital footprint to prevent data breaches and improve your online privacy. On the other hand, Bitdefender Identity Theft Protection focuses on credit monitoring to help you avoid becoming a credit fraud and identity theft victim.
