Bitdefender trying to modify my Acronis Backup Files

Bitdefender Total Security tries to modify my Acronis True Image 2019 (ATI) backup files on a removable drive. ATI flags this and gives me the choice to "Allow or Deny Bitdefender the privilege of modifying the ATI ".tib" backup files". I've denied it for now, but ATI keeps notifying me that "bdservicehost.exe cannot access your backup" and that I can manage permissions manually.

Why does Bitdefender need to modify the ATI backup files and should I have ATI allow or deny Bitdefender permission? I'm not comfortable with Bitdefender modifying another program's backups unless there is good reason and it is totally safe.
