My VPN keeps turning off and is replaced by an "upgrade" add-----when I searched it said error code 504

Try exiting out of VPN (in Windows) right-click the system tray icon, Exit. Then from the main Bitdefender app, click on VPN from Quick launch panel, or go into Privacy -> VPN/Open VPN and see if you still get an error code.

There are a few general causes for connection errors encountered by Bitdefender VPN:
In addition to the general possible causes mentioned above, to find out exactly what is causing this particular error, we need the VPN app version and OS.
