Antivirus/Firewall won't enable

So I recently transferred my files/programs to a new laptop. Old was Win10, new is Win11.

Bitdefender seemed fine. Then Windows Defender started warning me in the last day or two to enable virus protection. I looked this morning and indeed Antivirus and firewall are both OFF. Everything else seems normal. Password manager is functioning. I'm getting the green "you are safe" shield in the interface and also on my security desktop widget (which is.... odd? Why would it be telling me I'm safe if antivirus and firewall are off???). Also the antivirus auto daily scan I run is working.

If I enable antivirus and firewall, all the settings are greyed out. The only switch I can access in antivirus is to enable bitdefender shield. Everything else is grey. And they are re-disable if I close the main interface and open it back up again (they just go back to off).

Any idea what is going on here? Should I reinstall? Will I lose all my settings if I reinstall?

    Hello.

    -- STEP 1 --

Repair Bitdefender, by following these steps:

    -- STEP 2 --

If the instructions from Step 1 didn't help, uninstall the Bitdefender program using the Uninstall Tool:

It will completely remove the program.

NOTE: After uninstalling the program, ou will lose all your Bitdefender settings.

Next, reinstall Bitdefender from your Bitdefender Central account and see if the issue has been solved, as reinstalling the program usually solves the issues.

    -- STEP 3 --

If the instructions from Step 2 didn't help, follow the instructions in this step.

First, take screenshot(s) of the issue

and create a log file on your Windows device using Bitdefender Support Tool, by following these steps:

Next, contact Bitdefender Consumer Support by e-mail:

with short description of the issue.

After that, you will get an automated reply by the Bitdefender Customer Care Team, with your ticket number.

Now, in reply to that automated reply, you can send the screenshot(s) you already took and the log file you already created in the first step.

Since you are all done, just wait for the support engineers to investigate your issue and find a solution to fix the issue.

Remember that the screenshot(s) and the log file will help a lot to the support engineers for better and faster investigation on your issue and finding a solution.

NOTE: If the log file is larger than 25MB, you can upload the log file here:

After the upload is done, you will get a notification with the file's URL and then you can share the file's URL with the Bitdefender Consumer Support.

    Regards.

  • I just went ahead and reinstalled it and everything is fine now. Though when you use the Reinstall option it says it will uninstall the program, restart, then download and install the program automatically. It does not do that. After restart it did nothing, so I had to go download and install the program myself, but it did automatically install my license. just had to spend a few minutes tweaking some settings.

    Issue resolved. Thank you!

    Hi @Takket

And just to follow-up with your last question, if you do a complete uninstall, you will lose all of your settings. If you run a repair, you may still have some of them left, but I wouldn't count on it.
