Access to https://www.googleadservices.com/

I recently switched from Norton 360 to BitDefender, and I am getting used to how this Anti-Virus and VPN works.

One issue I can't seem to resolve is getting my VPN to allow access to "https://www.googleadservices.com/" For some reason, when I use Google Chrome and search for something, the first 2-3 sponsored results are not accessible. If that is first linked to Google Lead Services, it gives me an error. See screenshot.

I tried Bitdefender VPN Advanced settings, and allowing Split Tunneling, and adding "https://www.googleadservices.com/" to bypass VPN, and it did not work.

Any help on how I can allow access to Google Lead Services

Can you visit the link with VPN turned off?

This is happening to me also. I can access the sites fine with the VPN off, I have also tried adding the site to the whitelist using split tunnelling.

Hi @Veedub16,

Also check if you have Ad blocker and Anti-tracker enabled in the VPN app. If it's enabled, turn it off and try again to access the page.

I'm having the same general problem. On my Windows 10 laptop, which has Norton installed and its VPN enabled, there are no issues with using Google (via Firefox). The new Windows 11 laptop I just bought came with a subscription to Bitdefender and its VPN, so I'm learning my way around it. In my case, a generic Google search produces a connection error when the VPN is on. Sometimes reloading the page will make it go through; most of the time it won't. I haven't experienced any other website connection problems with the VPN on, only to Google. (I haven't yet tried accessing Kobo.com, which is the only site I've found which requires the bypass for the Norton VPN, but I'm expecting it will need to be bypassed as well.)

I don't have the anti-tracking etc turned on, because I need to research its advantages vs using what's built into Firefox. Activating both sounds problematic. I set up plain "google.com" in the split tunneling bypass list, and that fixed the issue.

My question, though, is whether there's any alternative to doing the bypass. Google is pretty high on the list of sites from which I want any protection I can get, given their track record for not understanding the word "privacy" in any way. It must be possible since the Norton VPN can manage it, but I can't see any configuration parameters that sound likely.

For starters, I would fiddle a bit with the protocols available inside the VPN app. Some websites may not work with certain VPN protocols due to differences in IP addresses, traffic detection, routing, or firewall rules. Switching to a different protocol can help bypass these restrictions. To change the VPN protocol in the Bitdefender VPN app for Windows, open the app and click 'Settings' at the top of the Bitdefender VPN window, then click 'Advanced' in the left menu, then select 'Protocol'. Choose a different protocol from the list instead of 'Automatic'. The protocols available may differ depending on the operating system and VPN version installed.

Reconnect to Bitdefender VPN and try accessing the website again. If the issue persists, repeat the process with the next protocol until you have tried all available VPN protocols.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I'll try it the next time I power up the Win11 box.

I have zero knowledge of how a VPN manages connection types, but won't changing the protocol potentially move the problem to other sites? That might still work out better for me, since right now it's rejected a site I use often, but it hadn't occurred to me that I might need to do that. With the VPN I've used for several years (and thoroughly dislike for other reasons, mostly speed degradation), there has always been a single problem site, and that one is a case where I'm fairly certain it's their site administrator's issue. (For a long time, I couldn't connect to the site at all through a VPN; they improved the situation but didn't get it working 100%.) Is tweaking that parameter going to be a regular thing?
