Bitdefender Bugs Untill Now

Options

A section for posting threads about BitDefender product in general does not exist, so I'll post here.

The bugs that I personally found untill now :

1.The Game-mode doesn't work as is should (doesn't automatically start when I play games), it should at least have a FULL SCREEN mode detection

2.Can't turn on the Yahoo Messenger Encription

3.Slow internet connection, proof is the high ping on www.speedtest.net

4.When Firewall paranoiod mode enabled the antivirus disables itself

5.I don't know about that but everytime I intentionately downloaded a virus from the internet, even wit autopilot on or off, BD deleted the file permanently, not moving it to quarantine as it should (at least you can make an option to the antivirus settings to choose between deleting or quarantine it)

6.The link scanner on google doesn't always work (it happens very often)

Complains about the product:

The limited posibility to customize the settings for antivirus, firewall, etc.

Alot of bugs for a final release!

    I'll add a few more,

I can't login to google mail, it gets 90% along the load bar then stops & times out, switching to the basic html version works, I use chrome.

Foxit PDF viewer no longer works inside chrome its now blocked mid load.

The virus scan last completed always says yesterday for me even after a new scan.

Mailwasher Pro can't update its log with TS 2012 installed it keeps saying its in use, works fine in TS 2011.

I can see that the tech support doesn't bother answering to our problems, they could just encourage us and reply to us with something like "Thank you for your support in our product, we'll take your problems in consideration and hope that we will fix them as soon as possible". They also disabled the posibility to LIVE CHAT with them I think this when they realized how many bugs their product have. So BitDefender what can we expect from you?

I was wondering why they had a stock clearance sale and this is probably why. I really hope their tech support gets more involved with the forums rather than live chat since this is where the majority of users would post their questions. It makes sense to have questions posted on the forums because multiple users might have the same problem; if there is a work around solution for problems everyone should have access to the information not just a select few.

At the moment BitDefender 2012 is completely un-usable compared to BitDefender 2011.

Same here. I already switched from version 2012 to 2011... :-(

Oh I can play this game too, here's a few more about usability:

    1) Nothing to tell if you are in an Events or Settings page, no title or indication of any sort.

    2) Events, Settings, Auto-pilot buttons should all be accessible from every single page, not just the home page.

    3) Worse interface ever, I didn't notice there was a new SAFEGO feature until I found the five white circles at the bottom of the Home page. How very intuitive!?!

    4) The BDAV GUI is not resizable, as all standard Windows apps, no anchor points to reduce or increase its width, height or both.

    5) The "Help and Support" link requires a UAC confirmation to "allow the following program to make changes to this computer" every frigging time.

    6) There is zero help on SAFEGO or Auto Pilot in the help.

    7) The "?" button adds tooltips to a few GUI elements, but the "help" is totally useless, with messages such as "Auto Pilot - Turn on Auto Pilot and enjoy silent security" or other messages that are already self-evident such as "Details - More information about each event", and it leaves out most of the GUI elements, such as the new feature SAFEGO, the choice of elements highlighted with sometimes incorrectly positioned "?" icons seems completely random. There should be normal (and more informative) tooltips on elements that require help, when you hover the mouse above the element and let it still for 2-3 seconds.

    8) There is no intuitive behaviors like double-clicking on an event to get more details (like a pop-up event details/properties box) or right-clicking on GUI items to get more context information.

    9) In Events, the Mark all as read button is not grayed out when there are no red (the color) event, so I was clicking like mad to get rid of 3 green and orange events in the Vulnerability tab with no result before I understood the 3 "unread" events that didn't go away were actually coming from the Virus Scan tab. There is no read/unread/N/A icon in front of each event to indicate which events are read or need to be flagged as read or don't need to be flagged as read because they are not critical.

    10) I got only false positives marked as "Virus Name: no_threat," this is not very helpful and goes totally against the simplicity of the new user interface by requiring marking all these events as "read." I believe they should not be displayed under the critical event color red if it's a known "no_threat."

    11) The "Feedback" link at the bottom of the BDAV window does not allow any feedback like this forum as I'd expect, it only goes to some online questionnaire, so the link is useless the first time for me, and useless every other time after that since I already filled in the questionnaire once.

    12) The "MyBitDefender" link shows some ads about Facebook Protection, requires me to log in, then to click again on "Go to MyBitdefender" which opens a blank page on my browser.

This product is in serious need of a usability review and some usability experts in the dev team.

I also noticed some temporary conhost.exe processes when nothing but BDAV 2012 was going on, I wonder if bdagent.exe or vsserv.exe are running some console applications like unzipping compressed folders to scan their content. It's weeeird! ^-^

Arg! The "X" Close button exists only in the Home page, you can't minimize BDAV to the Notification Area in one click anymore!

It's a Windows application, it should use the Windows GUI standards, not invent a new GUI of its own that breaks all known rules.

    Hello,

Allexif: all six bugs are already escalated. The 6th bug you report has been already resolved in a product update released yesterday.

Laska: the bug where you were not able to login to Gmail has been resolved and a fix for it was released via Automatic Update yesterday afternoon.

Regarding the other two bugs please post a new topic in the corresponding forum section with details on each of the bugs including the steps you take for the issue to occur. I am referring to the two software: Foxit PDF and Mailwasher Pro. Thank you!

Chimel: Considering that about half of the "bugs" you posted are actually feature requests, I will need a little more time to decide and discuss with the Dev. team and my manager on what you are suggesting in the 12 points you marked in your post. Also, tests are to be conducted for the submitted bugs as none of them were reported until now.

For any feature requests you may have please use the open Forum category below:

  • Haha, they are feature requests that bug me!

But seriously, I have been a BitDefender user for several years now, and it really bothers me when new features such as Auto Pilot and Safego are released without any accessible help from the product or the web site. I have been a programmer so I know that user documentation is usually the last thing on the plate, but it should be on the plate nevertheless when you serve the dish. I.e. when you release a new version with new features. I am probably missing something by not using these 2 features and a few others that apparently need "activation", just because I don't know what they are and what they do.

    My 2 cents.

  • Hello again,

If you have any suggestions on what info is missing from the offline help articles stored in your PC (location below) feel free to add them and will make the necessary changes, if needed.

    Regards,

  • Will do, in the Feature Request section.

  • @Chimel - (If you have already done this, then please ignore my post). You may want to read the BD 2012 User's Guides to see if the information you are looking for is in them. Links to them can be found in this pinned topic.

I have not taken the time to read through them yet. I need to do that.

    Cheers, :)

  • Thanks, Gary. It looks like it's based on the offline help, which I fully browsed, but in more details.

  • OK :) I didn't know how similar or different they would be.
