Bitdefender Is 2012 Issue W/ Hackshield Games

Options

Bitdefender Internet Security 2012 appears to cause issues (and ultimately be incompatible) with any of the many multiplayer games that use HackShield for anti-hacking security measures. Any game for instance by the huge gaming company Nexon (Mabinogi, Maplestory, Vindictus, Dragon Nest, etc.) will crash with a HackShield related error (often referring to data "hooking") as long as BitDefender is installed and running.

Even if you add the programs and their entire directories to the exceptions list, or even disable the real-time antivirus, firewall, intrusion detection, and privacy settings, it still gets the issue. If you completely uninstall BitDefender however, it begins to function properly again.

Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but figured it would be a good place to start and make people aware.

  • Hello,

    Do you have BitDefender installed as we need to run a test to pinpoint the exact module causing the issue.

  • Hello there,

    Heya there ferdie,

    Got those instructions from their support today, it might help, don't really know cause haven't tried it yet, please try it and tell me if it works cause i uninsulated BitDefender for the time being:

    Hi yowave,

    Thank you for your e-mail. In order to solve this issue you will need to add

    the games to the Exclusions List. The steps are below and are quite simple:

    1. Open the Bitdefender program > Settings > Antivirus > Exclusions

    2. Add the file to the Active Virus Control exclusions: click on "Excluded

    processes" > add the .exe file of the software and make sure it is "Allowed" >

    click "Close".

    3. Now add the file to the "on access and on-demand" scan exclusions: click on

    "Excluded files and folders" > Add the file and make sure it's excluded for

    "both" on-access and "on-demand" scanning.

    4. Also add a Firewall rule for it > go to the Firewall module > Advanced >

    click on "Application rules":

    - Browse to the application and click on "Open"

    - Select both "Local Address" and "Remote Address" boxes

    - At "Network type" select "Trusted"

    - Events > select all the boxes (Listen, Traffic, Connect)

    - Protocol: Any

    - Direction: Both

    - IP version: Any

    Click on OK and close the Rules window.

    Now yowave please restart the computer and recheck the software. I'm fairly

    confident the above solution will solve the issue you reported, but should you

    require further assistance please don't hesitate to contact us.

    Hello guys,

    The problem might be related to Active Virus Control. Can anyone confirm that adding the executables to the Active Virus Control exclusion list, or disabling only Active Virus Control solves the issue?

    Thank you.

    yowave, does this solution work in bit-defender 2011?

    Hekichi: you encounter the same issue with BitDefender 2011?

    Hekichi: you encounter the same issue with BitDefender 2011?

    I'm having the same problem on my computer as well. Adding the executables or even the entire software in AVC does not help. It works perfectly fine when I uninstall this program.

    I'm using BitDefender Antivirus Plus 2012

  • As long as Bit defender 2012 is installed, none of the hackshield games can run. It will crash after a while. Even if you add the executables in the exclusion area, and turn off firewall, it will not do anything. I even tried turning off the antivirus but still it does nothing. The only way to resolve this is to uninstall Bit Defender. The Game Mode button does not help either, however in the 2011 version of Bit Defender, if it does block the games you just have to simply turn on game mode for it to work. The 2012 Bit Defender Game Mode button does not.

    Can one of the technical staff members please check the firewall of Bit Defender 2012 because I suspect that the firewall is the main problem to the hackshield program.

    User of Bit Defender Total Security 2012

    Thanks

  • So I finally was able to get MapleStory to work. Here is how I did it on the Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2012. Game Mode doesn't even have to be on.

    Here is how image wise:

    Or you can follow these steps:

    1) Open Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2012 by right clicking the icon on the system tray and select "Show."

    2) Select settings.

    3) Select the "Antivirus" tab.

    4) Then, click on the "Exclusions" tab on the top.

    5) Under "Processes," click on the link "Excluded Processes."

    6) Select "Add" and "Allow" and choose the following programs for MapleStory:

    • c:\nexon\maplestory\gamelauncher.exe
    • c:\nexon\maplestory\maplestory.exe
    • c:\nexon\maplestory\patcher.exe
    • c:\nexon\maplestory\setup.exe
    • c:\nexon\maplestory\hshield\hslogmgr.exe
    • c:\nexon\maplestory\hshield\hsupdate.exe

    Although I don't it's necessary to add some of these .exe files as exclusions, I did it just in case I get another error when launching the game.

    As for Combat Arms, Vindictus, Dungeon Fighter Online, Dragon Nest, Mabinogi, Atlantica Online, or any other games, I would try the same exclusions as well.

    As for the firewall issues, although I don't use the Bitdefender's one, but I do use the Window's version. I currently allowed the following to pass through:

    • Pando Media Booster
    • Nexon Game Manager
    • Dragon Nest
    • Online Shield

    Port Forwarding was not necessary on my router.

    I hope this helps!

    c:\nexon\combat arms\combatarms.exe

    c:\nexon\combat arms\hshield\hsupdate.exe

    c:\nexon\combat arms\combatarms_direct.exe

    Thank you for providing the exact paths for that game.

    You can post other files here if you like.

    Take care.

  • Nothing works, I have tried everything listed. Nothing is allowing Nexon games to work. So I have go to Avast and everything works great. Its a shame as I loved bitdefender however if it doesn't allow certain products to work then its really not worth the money.

  • I e-mailed tech support about this issue as I couldn't play MapleStory. I promptly received a solution and it works so I thought I'd share.

    Please note that this is a known issue and the development team is working on

    a fix that will be available via the automatic update module without any

    intervention from your end.

    Until then, as a workaround, please follow the instructions below:

    In order to further investigate this issue, we will first need to set the

    BitDefender Update on Prompt so the changes will not be reverted upon auto

    updating. Please follow the steps below:

    1. Set the BitDefender Updates on prompt;

    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode.

    4. Browse to:

    C:\Windows\System32\drivers folder.

    5. Locate the file "avc3.sys"and rename it into "avc3.sy_";

    6. Restart the computer in Normal mode;

    7. Once the product will want to Update, please make sure to select only the

    "Signatures update" option and not the Product Update one, as that will

    replace the file you renamed in Safemode;

    8. Check if the issue still occurs.

    NOTE:

    If you are not seeing the file extensions please go to Start -> Control Panel

    -> Folder Options -> View tab -> uncheck the option "Hide extensions for

    known file types".

    [how to set BitDefender updates on prompt]

    - open BitDefender GUI;

    - click on 'Settings';

    - go to 'Update';

    - select 'Prompt before downloading';

    - click on 'Home';

    [How to restart in Safe Mode]

    - Restart the computer (Windows Start button - Turn Off - Restart);

    - Press the 'F8' key several times before Microsoft Windows begins to load;

    you need to press 'F8' until you will be displayed a text menu;

    - Select 'SAFE MODE' in the text menu and press 'Enter';

    - Wait while Windows loads in Safe Mode; this process ends with a confirmation

    message; click 'OK' to acknowledge.

    Hello :)

    We are aware of this issue. Actually some anti-cheating solutions consider Bitdefender as a threat, when our product just want to scan those components for malware.

    When this is happening, it will try to stop it and since our product has a strong self-protection, the game itself will be affected in some cases.

    We are working on a permanent fix this. Until then, please use the workaround described here:

    I am using Bitdefender Internet Security 2011 version 14.0.30.357 and having the same issue. It was ok last few months until the recent Bitdefender updates.

    I bought the 2012 version but I gave up with so many issues. I downgraded to 2011 version and was so great. Now any hackshield games just crash and is acting as listed in this post.

    Can someone tell if this is fixed in 2012? Maybe I should give it a try as I have like 600+ days left in my license.. arrg what a $$ waste. Now I am using Security Essential and Maplestory (hackshield games) works!!!

    Please advice.

    Hello :)

    Welcome to our forums!

    Please follow these steps to install Bitdefender 2012 and it should run properly with the latest updates.

    1. Use our uninstall tool in order to uninstall/delete any previous BitDefender related files:

    http://www.bitdefender.com/uninstall

    Access the link and when the window with the BitDefender file appears, please choose the "Save to disk" option. Save the tool on the PC, run it(right click and select "Run as administrator" - for Windows Vista/7) and restart the computer when prompted.

    2. Download and install the software and then run it to clean your computer's registry and temporary files:

    http://download.piriform.com/ccsetup318.exe

    http://www.piriform.com/docs/ccleaner/usin...gistry-cleaning

    Once the cleaning is complete it's recommended to restart your computer.

    If you have a registry cleaner already installed, you can use that one.

    3. Install BitDefender using the latest installation kit available for download. Please note that you need to download (save) the installation kit prior to running it.

    The BitDefender Internet Security 2012 installation kit can be downloaded from here:

    http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/in...r_isecurity.exe

    The installer should automatically retrieve your license key so you will not need to enter it again during the setup.
