I have a good advice for you...stay as far away from this product as possible. I'm not gonna go much in details. You should know and learn by reading all this forum comments.

  • Woopipete,

As you can see from the date of my original post (7/1/12) we are now 3 1/2 months into this problem with no solution.

Come on BD lets get this fixed!! <img class=" />

i have been a loyal customer with b.defender on a half dozen devices for several years and never had any issue like this. if the issue was known months ago why then is no mention made whatsoever during the purchase process?? the temp "fix" as shown does not work on my pc and i need right click functionality. if a solution e.g. an update is not available soon how do i get a refund? i have only had the new version for 2 wks. i cannot do my work without being able to access the rt clk menu and at present have had to dig out a ten year old laptop to fill in for the new one i just got but cannot use because of the bitdefender coding error. please either tell me how to fix it or how to get a refund. fyi i double checked my registry and that particular line,

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\{82363864-57FA-4DAC-B7E6-699B51F7C73E}] it is there. if i misunderstood and the solution is to delete that please let me know but the way your temp fix was worded it read to me as it needed to be added in. i also manually changed the scan settings as shown in the png file.

at first i thought that the issue might be related to changes from win7 and earlier versions to win8 but then read another post where someone tried on win8 yesterday and still a problem. i wish i could get the previous version of bitdefender back that i was using on my other pc, i still had 8 mos. left on it and it worked perfectly. i will check back to see if any solution is found as nothing cited herein to date has worked.

  • Add me to the list of people having this problem. Right clicking on the drive and selecting nothing still causes the problem once the right-click menu goes away. I don't even have to select anything from the menu.

Judging by the posts and how long this has been an open issue, this should be absolutely #1 on the critical-fix-ASAP-bug-list!!

I'm about to move on to a new AV program at this point.

Please do! The sooner, the better. I wish i could've ditch them on sooner. Half of the world already know so they will soon do the same :)

    Christian,

i followed the instructions/link you provided. i downloaded and got text, no application asking for importing of anything. this is exactly what was displayed,"HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\{82363864-57FA-4DAC-B7E6-699B51F7C73E}"

so i went into regedit, that particular key already was there. no change with windows explorer and right click crash then restart.

next for safety i copied and pasted that key and the info to word then deleted it and restarted my machine, fyi win7 64 bit

next machine reboots fine, open explorer, right click on device and it WORKS!!! :P

so my question is this PLEASE i do need information in regards to this, now that i have restored full functionality of windows explorer but have deleted that particular bitdefender key, the one which was causing the shell error, WHAT is/are the consequences to Bitdefender having "fixed" the issue by deleting that key? i can live without the bells and whistles so to speak but i want to make certain that in regards to antivirus and firewall i still have full and complete protection. so if you could let me or anyone else here know the consequences of fixing the problem as i have done it would lower the frustration and stress levels greatly. thanks mike

    Thank you!

Since I first reported the problem I upgraded 2 of my computers to Windows 8 x64, the third still runs Windows 7 x64.

Both Windows 8 computers are not having the reported issue with the latest build! :P

Now, I am sorry to report that the Windows 7 x64 computer is still crashing when the context menu is opened on a USB stick!! <img class=" />

    UPDATE!

To continue my Love/Hate  relationship with Bitdefender, I followed the standard BD procedure of repairing/removing/reinstalling BD2013.

I am now happy to report that my Windows 7 machine is finally working as it should! <img class=" />

I have to add that in my 40 years of experience with computer hardware and software, I have never had to repair/remove/reinstall any software as many times as Bitdefender in order to make it work! <_<

  • Hello :)

I am glad to hear that. Thank you very much for our feedback.

Should you need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Have a great day!

Hi, I was reading all post regarding this USB issue and found no solution for my case yet. I have WIN7 64 bit, and BD 2013 built 16.24.0.1682. Everytime on right click on USB drive causes WE to crash. I tried all my USB sticks and it happens on all of them. It is 1) annoying, 2) can't work like this. Please offer some fix for this.

    Thank you

  • The issue remains the same for me too. I tried the "clean uninstall" and reinstall and it still didn't fix the problem. I am currently running the latest build of BD

    Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

  • While I have not tried to uninstall/reinstall BitDefender (my isp is so slow it takes a long time to download/update a new BD install), Windows Explorer is crashing on both of my W7 x64 computers whenever I right click on a USB thumb drive in the navigation menu. So I would not consider this issue resolved. BD build is 16.24.0.1684

  • The problem still exist on Build 16.25.0.17.10

I tried the procedure explained above: repair/uninstall/reinstall

I reinstalled from the online version not from the DVD...

A very vey very annoying bug !!!

    An update :

I found a workaround in the french part of the forum

    http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?sho...st&p=167331

Removing this key in the registry solves this problem (but what functionnality/protection disappear by doing that ?):

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\{82363864-57FA-4DAC-B7E6-699B51F7C73E}

  • Hello :)

I am having the exact same problem with Win7 32bit install and my 64bit install. If I uninstall BD, all is fine. It doesn't happen with BD2012. I have been able to test with my imaging software. You guys don't pay me enough to do this, think you tech gurus could find a solution?

  • 16.25.0.1710 Version

I also had this problem with this version ... I used the fix at post 30 adding the data to the registry. This worked. I shoild note i upgraded to this version from BD2012

    cheers

  • Christian,

When will this issue be resolved? It started over 6 months ago and is still on-going.

Recently I received an invitation to renew my BD subscription (and receive a discount). I must say that I have used BD for about 10 months now and there have been many problems, bugs, and glitches. I would like to renew but I have to feel comfortable with doing so.

Your program is, basically a good one, with many features. In the past, I have used Norton, McAfee, and ZoneAlarm. I came to BD in the hope of finding a stable program that had the features and protection I need. So far, I can't say that about BD.

I would have recommended the program to my Brother, and several friends but can't at this time.

Please resolve all problems and don't release further updates/versions unless and until they are completely stable.

Regarding the problem that started this thread, come on!! It's been 6+ months with no fix.

Thanks for all your help over the last few months, I realize that you are overworked and under valued and not to blame for these problems :D

  • For mi this issue is resolved whit de last build: 16.26.0.1739.
