I've forgotten the password of a file vault. How can I retrieve it?

  • Hello,

I've forgotten the password of a file vault. How can I retrieve it?

AFAIK, you cannot; there is no recovery info. There's still a chance I might be wrong.

I'll send an email to driver guys and I'll let you know.

  • Sorry I'm OT now, but this made me really unsure. If there are stored recovery information to the filevault, that would mean there are a backdoor to the program. And that my friends is a huge security flaw in my mind. For a company aiming to be the best in PC and online security, I realy hope there's not any masterkey or backdoor to any of BitDefenders encryption services.

  • Hello everyone,

Due to security reasons, the password chosen for file vault is embedded within that vault. If you forget the file vault password there isn't a way to recover it.

Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions or concerns.

    Have a lovely day! :)

  • Thanks. Since there's nothing else left to do here if we forgot the password, would re installation be the last option? smile2.png

  • Hello,

Reinstalling Bitdefender will not help recover the password for your file vaults. They are separate files.

    Thank you for your understanding.
