[fixed in 18.19.0.1345] Black-screen Boot Delay On Windows 7 And 8.1

edited August 2014 in General

Hello everyone,

I have a strange problem with having black-screen boot delay after installing Bitdefender Internet Security 2015. I already saw that other people had the same problem with BD 2014, but they had not found any solution for it. I also sent an email to support team of BD , and they recommended a solution but was not useful.

I want to know, is there anyone here that has this problem like me? Is there any solution to get rid of it?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello Shahab,

Yes, it is a problem for me as well on my Win 7 desktop. A couple of days ago I worked with Support to try to find the cause of the problem, they did come to some conclusions and apparently the Developers are working on a solution. We hope to hear something before too long. :)

I'm having the same issue, but with Bitdefender Total Security 2015 windows 7. I've had an open ticket since 7 days ago and still no fix. I'm really annoyed.

I hope they sort out your issue sooner than mine.

Thanks a a lot for your response.

In my point of view, It's not normal and good that they've been working on this problem through 2 years, and yet they can't to find any solution regarding this problem!

In the end, I hope they find a solution for this common problem.

    Thanks buddy,

I hope the problem for everyone will be solved very soon, because, as you mentioned, it's too annoying.

I think they know where the issue is, I think I may do as well but I am no expert, so if they rectify it then it will be sorted for everyone, not just me :)

@ Shahab.J I see my colleagues recommended you to uninstall the other security solution. Please do that and check if the black screen still appears at startup. Reply to their email with your results.

@ cc2150dx Thank you, I have located your ticket. From the logs you have already submitted I can see that Bitdefender is properly installed and there are no other security solutions on the system. I will get back to you by email in a couple of minutes.

@ jithin If you have already contacted Bitdefender support please post back your ticket ID.

For all the customers facing this issue, here are the steps to follow:

    1. First of all make sure there are no other security solutions (antivirus, tune-up, etc.) installed on the same machine with Bitdefender. Uninstall them and then retest the situation.

    2. If the black screen still appears, turn off all the Bitdefender modules and recheck the situation. You can find here a guideline:

    http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?sho...st&p=220545

    3. If the issue persists, start Windows in Safe Mode and disable this service: Bitdefender Virus Shield. Restart Windows normally and retest.

    4. If the black screen disappears by performing step 3, undo this change in Safe Mode (set Bitdefender Virus Shield back to Automatic). Rename or delete the driver gzflt.sys found inside the folder C:\Windows\System32\Drivers . Reboot and retest it.

Please post back your results. Thank you!

    Hello Georgia,

    Thanks for your help.

I did rename the file that you mentioned, and the problem was practically solved. Now the black screen takes about 10 seconds to disappear; however the real time protection was dead! If I correctly understood, the black screen is derived from the real time protection. Then now we have two problems needing to be solved.

    Thanks again for your prosecution.

I have been working on a machine running 2014 this morning installing a graphics card. It was also affected with the boot delay. As is my own desktop which I am going to try the following on later too.

Because it freed up some onboard memory (it previously ran with onboard graphics sharing memory) I needed to resize the pagefile. As a result I didn't want it fragmented.

So how is this relevant? I found that after disabling the pagefile and restarting to delete it, then enabling it again, therefore creating a new one the boot delay was much reduced back to normal.

See for yourself but I think this is preferable to disabling realtime protection.

@ antikythera: Thank you for your suggestion!

@ Shahab.J: gzflt.sys is the Bitdefender driver that handles on-access scanning. When this driver is deleted or renamed of course OAS stops working properly. It is just a test to help pinpoint the cause of the issue. Please undo the changes for now to keep the PC protected.

I will post back news as soon as I receive them from our developers.

@Georgia and all concerned you're welcome. an update on my suggestion. I have now done the same to the pagefile on my home PCs and it seems to have worked on those too.

I have brought this issue to developers numerous times but in vain.

I had also pointed out this issue during BD 2015 beta where the topic was marked severe and until now no steps are taken

  • the problem persists after new build of today

  • Same here with 8.1.

  • At least they have acknowledged the problem here on the forums so hopefully it will be addressed in the next update.

I have noticed that since the most recent update I have had a significant reduction of RAM usage on my system, good! :)

  • I also hope this problem will be solved very soon.

Please keep tracing the stem of this common problem.

    Thanks

    +1

This issue has been ongoing now for 2 weeks. I've been getting emails from Bitdefender that always say 'shortly'. I guess that means they'll fix it in a month. <img class=" />

  • I am considering switching from Norton to Bitdefender, installed a trial version, and immediately noticed an additional 1 to 2 minute delay in start-up on a Win 7 machine. This issue just made my decision for me. Unless there is a reasonable explanation for the long black screen delay in boot time that can be justified by a significant reduction my security risk, I am moving back to Norton.

To start, check the results on AV-Comparatives and AV-TEST and then determine if boot time is more important than protection and detection rates.

  • To developers: The delayed boot problem did not occur with build 18.11.0.872. Maybe this information helps pinpointing the bug.

  • Further to my post suggesting recreating the pagefile. After a weeks usage the same slow startup problem reared it's ugly head. So I changed the Local Security Policy on my PC to clear the Pagefile on shutdown. So as a result every time the PC starts the delay is pretty much gone again.

    Pros of setting clear pagefile:

-More secure as your pagefile no longer contains sensitive information even after the PC is shutdown. This can be accessed via a dualboot operating system or even a LiveCD or USB hosted OS when not purged.

    -More stable OS

    -Possible speed boost on startup

    Cons:

-Some normally cached files will take longer to load

    -Slower shutdown time

Sooner a workable fix is found the better really. It is entirely up to you if you want to try enabling this LSP setting. It can be easily reversed and will not damage your system.

i don't think that everyday user will do any of that.

BD, it's a pity that a so ggod antivirus has these problems (and don;t forget plenty of ram usage, which nothing has been done).Another prob of course is customer service, not typical (we will do this or that) but practical

  • I don't know where the problem is, but it's a crucial weak point, and needs to be solved soon; otherwise, we have to give up this AV and choose the other one, in the end. In my opinion, The technical team should dedicate a special attention for evaluating and solving this problem, and it should not take too long time to overcome.

  • Is there a estimated time on a fix yet?

  • Hi,

I have the same problem. With latest version of Bitdefender Internet Security, i get a black screen when the computer starts that delays the startup between 30 and 120 seconds.

I uninstalled the Wise Care 365 utility and it works.

Please let me know if you can fix the problem, because i don't wanna have to choose between your product and Wisecare 365, which in my opinion is more powerful that your optimization tool.

    Thanks,

  • I Have uninstalled malwarebytes and cc cleaner - still getting this annoying error. I have total security 2015, is the same error present in Internet security 2015, if not I would be happy to downgrade.

I have Antivirus Plus and my screen goes blank for 2 minutes. Another thread suggests it's the Wallet Services feature that causes it and it is available in all BD products.

  • Any fix soon?

I'm going on 1 month now with this issue.

  • Hi everybody !

I'm having the same annoying issue with Antivirus Plus 2015 on both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate systems.

I gave a few Bitdefender licenses to a few relatives and friends as present; and they're not happy with it either :(

    Hope there's a resolution soon.

    Thanks.

    LOL!

I had this problem with BD products for a years and I don't think there is going to be a fix any time soon. :)

I ditched this crapware for a long time ago and moved on and maybe once a month I like to come read this forum and see how people are still complaining about same old bugs that are never going to be fixed by BD. Do as I did, move on and you're going to be happier customer to some other company.

  • Almost going on 5 weeks with no fix yet <img class=" />

    I'm getting really annoyed.

  • It's really a shame for such a good product !

Good detection rates and performance ... with such a long BOOT time !

    It's really a shame.

I've already opened a support ticket (2014091809110002), and waiting for response.

    Hope someone acts soon.

    Still waiting....

There's no response on my ticket either.

Guys, has there been any progress with this issue?

    Thanks.

post-184595-1412604811_thumb.png From this message I can say that the fix have been testing 10 days.

P.S. Also I very happy Bitdefender support team because all questions I have asked they mannaged to answer very fast even in few minutes but when I reading this forum I see that your questions are not answered so long time...

Now boot_s faster (using a stop watch app on my phone) in build 18.17.0.1227 on my systems.

  • The issue still hasn't been fixed. Can we expect to see it within the next couple of days? If not, I'll have to uninstall Bitdefender.

Thanks for sharing the emails. A glimmer of hope emerging from the end of the tunnel. I hope the same modifications once tested apply to the 2014 version as well :)

  • I know Bitdefender team is doing their best to fix this. If only they could give us a work around to disable the module that's causing this. 1.gif

The thing is, they already have the fix ready. They just have to release it. I don't know what they're waiting for still. They've been testing it for more than two full weeks now.

This thread, post #40. http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?act...st&id=13197. That e-mail is from more than two weeks ago.

  • I noticed that after removing bit defender 2012 to upgrade to 2014 my boot up time dropped from 30 seconds to 21 seconds. With 2014 installed, my boot time went back up to 30 seconds. Apparently, 30% of my total boot up time is bit defender. I too, am waiting for a fix. In the meantime, would it be advisable or possible to set bit defender services for "delayed start"?

Since I don't reboot several times a day, the delay doesn't really bother me, frankly.

You might take a look at these recommended settings for Windows Services and see if anything else you currently have starting automatically really needs to...

Very interesting information. Thanks for passing it on, but even with a lot of study and effort utilizing information in your link, I do not think I can shave off the nine seconds that Bit Defender adds to my boot time.

What it will do is improve your overall boot time and system performance, which is what most folks look for...
