[FIXED] Windows restart instead of Shut Down with Bitdefender 2016

<img class=" /> Upgraded both my desktop and laptop to the new version total security 2016 successfully.

Problems now that when I select shutdown both computers restart instead of shutting down.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling but problem persists so I can't turn my computers off now unless I force it by holding the power button.

This is obviously caused by Bitdefender 2016 as it does not happen when I uninstall the software?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

  • Hello,

I have only installed 2016 on one of my computers so far but it is shutting down without problems. Try running a repair just in case something has become corrupted - Windows Control Panel>Programs and Features>Bitdefender, double click and choose repair.

Let us know how you get on.

    Ro.

  • Tired repairing, no success, reinstalled twice same problem, only time it works is if I uninstall Bitdefender <_<

  • OK, then you should contact Bitdefender. Open the BD GUI by double clicking the BD icon in your system tray, from the figure icon on the top bar choose "Help & Support" and then "Contact Support".

If there are others who have this problem it will help both you and Bitdefender to sort it.

    Ro.

  • I can confirm this because I have the same problem.

    BDIS 2016 on Windows 10 PRO X86.

    Uninstalled resolved the problem...

  • Hi,

A possible explanation would be that the computer crashes with blue screen of death. Could you please check if there are any minidumps generated in %windir%\Minidump or any dumps in %SystemRoot%\MEMORY.DMP after Windows restarts and upload them to www.filemail.com ?

If no dumps are generated please send us instead a Bitdefender support tool log by running this tool:

    http://www.bitdefender.com/support/how-to-...t-log-1168.html

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

I dont have blue-screen. When i press shutdown, display will close, but computer disk activity still remained. Computer will not shutdown (even after 5 minutes).

Unfortunately, i cannot help in resolve this problem because i have restored my computer to earlier version 2015. <_<

  • I had this same problem could not Shut Down Windows 10 after installing Bitdefender Total Security 2016. Although it said Shutting Down it just rebooted. Consistently Did This EVERY time. Also lost Start menu items Settings, File Explorer, Most Used and the Desktop Widget stopped working and disappeared off Desktop. Also lost notifications for Synaptics and Intel Graphics. Uninstalled 2016 and everything went back to the way it was supposed to be. Reinstalled Bitdefender 2015 waiting on a FIX for 2016.

I didnt encounter any BSODs.....So I dont have any mini dump files generated....And the Support Tool Link ( www.bitdefender.com/diagnostic ) redirects to your Website

Anyway I have already sent the file and detailed description of all the problems Im facing with 2016 version along with this forum post via BDTS 2016 GUI ---> Help&Support---> Contact Support with the same Mail ID I used to create this account

  • The support tool is from the BD GUI>top drop-down (figure icon)> Help & Support>Contact Support. Clicking that you can allow the support tool to run.

  • Hi everyone! I've just installed new BIS 2016 and now I can't shut down my computer. After pressing shutdown button in start menu, my PC is restarting everytime! I try to install BIS 15 and the problem disappeared. It means that the problem is in 2016 version. How could I fix it?

    Hi,

Just a quick update to let you know that we managed to replicate this issue internally as well on Windows 10 systems. It's not a blue screen of death.

We do not need other logs for now.

As a workaround choose Sleep instead of Shut Down until I post back news from the team in charge with this case. Thank you for your patience!

  • Thanks Georgia.

Waiting for a fix to re-install 2016 version.

Also I want to tell that it is impossible to set Data Protection Settings, the buton in menu is just unactive.

  • Same issue here. Yesterday I got my year sub for BDTS. After install I was going out, so I turn off my PC. But it doesn't shut down. Only restart. I shut down my pc from login screen.

    Windows 10 x64

  • I bought BitDefender Total Security yesterday

My first impression? Well, "terrible" is enought to say.

First I had to hussle with License and figure out if my.bitdefender.com or central.bitdefender.com is the place where I should look for my subscription, devices etc.

Then after successfully contacting customer support I got my Activation Code so I was able to install 2016 version AND that was the mistake!

After installation my PC would not turn off at all, instead it was turning off monitors and then did nothing for a while. After 2-3 minutes it did reboot instead of shut down.

I thought it may be a problem with windows itself, my Windows 10, was an update over 8.1 and you know how messy it may be... So I formatted my system drive and quickly installed fresh and shiny Windows 10. Everything was smooth untill I got to installation of Bitdefender and don't get me wrong, the installation itself was not a problem but what happened next was a big one: I tried to restart the PC and supprisingly it did restart but never went back to life. Windows keep trying to repair itself on each boot and there was really nothing I could do about it. I have installed only Chrome and Bitdefender so I'd rather reinstall windows than wait for never ending repair... And so I am sitting here, with good'old avast supporting me in the background.

Still I am looking forward to use Bitdefender as the 2015 version had so many good reviews. And while my first impression was ruined I want to use the software for which I have paid!

  • the only way to shut down is to let the PC restart. One you are at the Windows login screen, click the power button and shut down the PC.

  • The problem is present on Window Pro 8.1 x 64?

I do not want to risk.

Georgia, I may receive a response?

Can't believe you guys. Been BD customer since 2008 and the product is getting more and more unreliable.

I also filed false positives 1 month from now. No answer no nothing from the support.

115 days left of my actual subscription.

Will try something else after this period.

    Currently returning to BDTS2015.
