Total Security 2016 Vsserv.exe Using Memory Even In Idle

Hi, I am new user of Bitdefender's antivirus softwares and recently just bought 10 devices of Bitdefencer Total Security 2016.

I have been running the antivirus for about 2 weeks+ now and only noticed that a few days ago the vsserve.exe process is running higher than it previously does.

I have attached a screenshot of how much memory the vsserv.exe is taking up as compared to other processes from bitdefender.

The current screenshot shows vsserv.exe running at 200MB but when I was gaming it shot up to 350MB and seriously started to lag and hang my game as the game easily takes up close to 2.3GB of my memory.

I am not great with computers and tried to google to find out if anyone has had a similar experience but what I have found just left me baffled.

Some mentioned it was an old issue which was not fixed since long time ago and another stated by Bitdefender that its actually normal?

Can anyone kindly advise because I initially bought BD as it was recommended that it isn't as heavy as Norton, but right now it doesn't seem to be the case?

  • Hello Olivia89,

150 to say a maximum of 400 MB depending on the system (the more ram the more it allocates) is normal.

Please note that the product is actively protecting the machine, it does not go idle if you're not running a scan for example.

Also let us know what build version of Bitdefender are you running and what game in particular are you referring to.

You can also try to add an exclusion to said game to ensure he product doesn't follow it's activity.

    Hi Sorin,

Thanks for getting back to me.

150MB is still accpetable for me but anything above that is actually too high for me as my laptop is already more than 5 years old.

Eversince I realised how much ram vsserv.exe is using, the lowest it got was 200MB+ of ram which is almost equivalent to using up about 15-20% of ram that my computer needs to run smoothly.

I do not understand though why I did not see such ram usage when I first installed the antivirus, as I have mentioned this usage only started out after about 2 weeks of installing the software.

I am currently using Bitdefender Total Security 2016, Build 20.0.29.1517.

My computer OS is Windows 7 SP 1, 4GB Ram.

The game I was referring to is an online steam game called Blacklight Retribuition and when I am on it, I can't have any programs on with it, not even Firefox.

I will try adding the game as an exclusion and see if it works out. But it still makes this very difficult if the system itself is using that much ram which I can have it dedicated to other programs instead. I am already using a PC optimiser called CleanMem, otherwise I think things will even be running slower.
