Firewall blocking HP wireless scanning communication
Dear Team,
I can print wirelessly to my HP Deskjet 3050A without problem. I can also scan wirelessly but today it stopped working. I have managed to get around the problem by turning my firewall off. I have added firewall rules for all of the .exe files in location c:\Program Files\HP\HP Deskjet 3050A J611 series\Bin and also location: c:\Program Files\HP\HP Deskjet 3050A J611 series\Bin\utils\. I also added a firewall rule for the hpscan.exe software located in: C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Deskjet 3050A J611 series\bin\HPScan.exe
The software "hpscan.exe" will still not communicate with the scanner. In order for me to get a successful scan I need to completely disable the firewall. It would be easy if I got a pop-up asking me if I wanted to allow access like previous BD products in the past.
Can you give me any ideas or can you tell me how I can run some logging so that I can see what port/software I need to create a rule for?

Please ensure that your firewall adapters are set as Home/Office with Stealth OFF and Generic ON.
Bitdefender > Protection > View Modules > Firewall > Adapters
Also in the Adapters tab you can click on Network Exceptions and add a exclusion for the printer's IP. (please be sure to select the profile for the exclusion same as the adapter's profile)1 -
Hello - Thanks for your reply. The adapters were set as you have already mentioned . I didn't know that the "network exceptions" word on the firewall tab was even a clickable button! I have added in the printer's IP address and it is now working as expected.
Bad software design if the end user can't notice a button though!! Suggest in the next release making the buttons more obvious than just a blue word. Highlighting or hand curser shape on rollover would be useful!

I couldn't reach my HP M426fdw scanner unless I turned off the Bit Defender firewall completely until I followed your instructions. I empathize with /index.php?/profile/207468-dickibow/&do=hovercard&referrer=https%253A%252F%252Fforum.bitdefender.com%252Findex.php%253F%252Ftopic%252F74943-firewall-blocking-hp-wireless-scanning-communication%252F%2526_fromLogin%253D1" href="<___base_url___>/index.php?/profile/207468-dickibow/" style="color:inherit;" title="Go to dickibow's profile" rel="">dickibow however, in that it took 10 hours of poking around in Bit Defender just to figure out that it was the Bit Defender firewall causing the problem and then to get to the Network Exceptions area, and then to create a Network Exception after clicking on the words and then to make the "Network Type" as "Home/Office", the "Stealth Mode" as "Off", and the "Generic" as "On", all while having no idea what any of these words mean, and praying that my Bit Defender Firewall will still protect me.0
