BDIS 2018 - Eating up CPU

  • No need to wait 2-3 days...

Few hours after I turned ATD on, my CPU usage sky rocked...

Same thing: atc.sys+0xb2634 will eat up your CPU.

    This fixed nothing...

  • Yeah, reply said it'll be in the next update.

Will also be getting compensated thankfully.

And who will get a compensation ? All of us or only people who contacted support directly ?

  • Well logically you'll have to provide proof of purchase etc, so yes those who contacted support I'd say.

    And that is so retarded.

Why do I have to provide anything ??? They could just go to my BD account, view my e-Mail and send me the compensation or just increase the days...

    Such useless company...

Now I need to fck around with their support because they screwed something up...Nice...Really nice...

  • I just came upon this thread, I have two clients that are still using BDTS 2018(W7 and W8.1 &  IE11) and they are not seeing this cpu spike with the current build.

Good for you. You hit a jack-pot.

I still have 3 out of 6 computers that have this cpu spike.

Update and restarted and nothing. Reinstalled and updated and still nothing. Nothing is fixed...

That is odd that it only effects some PC's and not all, is the spike always the same?

The Spike it self is the same. It occurs at random intervals, independent of software or time, even at complete idle.

    Strange indeed...

If your subscription is almost over I'd ditch this for something else, One by one im trying to move my people away from this SW, support is terrible on this forum and at HQ.

I have 6 days left. I could not use this software for 3 months now. I want a compensation but I doubt I will ever get one.

I will not use this software for a long time.

And you are absolutely right, the support is so bad it is not even funny. Oh my god, like, really bad...

  • This is totally unacceptable. We have been waiting for MONTHS now and still no fix. Useless piece of abandonware.

I still think that this company is going bankrupt or something or there are just like 2-3 people in total working on it, which if true, so sad is...

  • i never realized this but they do not provide a Phone number in About page of BD.

They really do not want people calling them and yelling at them because they choose to ignore everybody on forum and support.

    Smart move.

  • how the atc.sys spikes can be still not fixed?

  • It has been months now. I have completely given up on Bitdefender.

I'm still waiting for a changelog/email before I start using it again.

They're going to owe me at least a few months subscription credit...

  • I got a mail from support to install the latest version. I did, but the problem still remains. Version: 22.0.18.224

  • I received the same email and I'm glad to say that so far so good. (A few hours testing, but it used to show instantly before.)

I'll keep an eye on it for a week and report back.

  • update via supportmail 1/2/2018:

    Hi ....,

    Thank you for your patience.

A fix for the CPU spikes was released in the latest Bitdefender update. All you have to do is to open Bitdefender and choose Update now.

Bitdefender will ask you to restart the computer and the build version will change to 22.0.18.222 (latest build) the issue should be fixed.

To make sure you have the latest build please right click on the Bitdefender icon from the system tray, choose About and look at the Product Information.

Let us know if everything went well.

Seems to be fixed for me too

  • This problem is NOT FIXED.

Although in my case the culprit is vsserv.exe (as identified through WPRUI and WPA), not atc.sys.

I've reported the bug and the symptoms to BD support several times, and several times they've said it's been fixed with an update, but it always happens again. The CPU gets randomly eaten by vsserv.exe (masked as the System process) and the PC becomes unusable even if literally every other process active is killed. Only a reboot will fix it, until it randomly triggers again.

It is sometimes triggered by heavy network traffic like Steam updates or YouTube videos, but other times it's triggered by Spotify streaming a song or a game syncing its save file, neither of which is particularly network-intensive and only take seconds. But vsserv.exe keeps clogging the CPU for all eternity thereafter.

I liked Bitdefender products until the 2017 iteration and been using it happily for years, but now I'm going to request a complete refund of my remaining license. Bitdefender is right now making my computer unreliable and unusable for any work or entertainment that needs to happen at a certain time without a reboot at Bitdefender's whim.

  • Checking to see if I can still post, because Bitdefender blocks me from posting every time I try to start a new thread...

No problems on my end, streaming YouTube videos, or Google Play. With no apps running, cpu idling at 0 with 3-5 spikes every now and then.

All 3 of my PCs with BD are with the current build, 22.0.18.224

1st image is Windows 7 Professional with AV+ streaming a YouTube video.

2nd image is Windows 7 Professional with AV+ streaming Google Play. When closing out of streaming YouTube and Google Play, there were no after effects of high cpu.

3rd image is Windows 10 Home with BD Internet Security at idle. I also ran some YouTube videos with no problem.

I know the above shows only 1 example of BDIS, but I only have it installed on the 1 PC.

All of the above were clean installs, deleting any previous AV fragment leftovers found in the usual places.
