Hello everyone. I did a network scan and it was ok, but said unknown ssid. What does this mean do I need to be worried. Please help
Thank you so much
A hidden SSID refers to a wireless network that does not broadcast its network name. The SSID is essentially the name that identifies a specific wireless network. When you scan for available wireless networks on your device, you usually see a list of SSIDs, and you can select one to connect to.
In the case of a hidden SSID, the network administrator configures the wireless access point (router) not to broadcast the SSID. This means that the network name doesn't appear in the list of available networks when devices search for Wi-Fi connections. Instead, users need to manually enter the SSID to connect to the network.
The idea behind using a hidden SSID is to add an extra layer of security by making the network less visible to potential attackers. However, it's important to note that hiding the SSID does not provide strong security on its own. Skilled attackers can still discover hidden SSIDs using various techniques, and it might make it more inconvenient for legitimate users to connect to the network since they need to know the exact SSID to connect.
In most cases, using strong encryption methods (like WPA2 or WPA3) with a complex passphrase, and keeping your router firmware updated, are more effective security measures than relying solely on a hidden SSID.
Nice post, learned something new today :) Good question asked, @zakk2115
