Online search engines safe website icon
Hi everyone,
I would like to see bitdefender add an icon to the search results in the online search engines that would tell a user if a site is safe to visit or not.
Thx

This function is already present, and it is "safe search" only that with Chrome you have to make a change in the browser to activate this function.
Otherwise you can install the "Traffic light" extension also from Bitdefender which will display the icon that indicates whether a link is safe or not safe in Google searches.

As @Nunzio77 said, that feature is already a function of BD, unless you mean something else?

Thanks @Nunzio77, I've installed it in my firefox.
When installing it asked me permission to collect personal information about the websites I visit, does this mean that bitdefender would have a list of all the sites I visit and link that to my user or ip address?

Read the information on privacy for detail 😉

Yes that's what I meant. Can you tell me what kind of personal information is collected? Does bitdefender store and identify users on the websites that are visited?
Thx

If you want to avoid that, just use the version from the app, Online Threat Prevention, where with that search advisor you will not get that data collection warning. So, if the latest Chrome update did break that feature, which it did for me, use the fix found in this article, it works:
Also, since Bitdefender uses its certificate to verify a websites certificate, so I believe it does track in a non personal way, what and where we visit. See 2.2 and following of this article.
I'm not sure what happens when we use the VPN, and what is tracked and what is deleted if BD HotSpot Shield are using RAM servers and how often those are purged.

I don't use chrome and I not going to use chrome as I don't trust google, I only use firefox.
If the firefox add-on collects personal information then I'm not going to use it.
Also I don't use google search or bing, I use duckduckgo and brave search only but I see that those search engines are not supported by the bitdefender "Online Threat Prevention"?
Also does the "Online Threat Prevention," collect any personal information?
It works in firefox only on google and yahoo but not bing on my device even when having tried the fix for firefox.
It would be great if bitdefender would add duckduckgo and brave search to the supported search engines for the "Online Threat Prevention" "Search Advisor".

As long as we're using BD with a supported browser, some of our online surfing is being logged, as per 2.2 and beyond of that article. Please reread that as far as what's collected.

The "traffic light" add-on for firefox does support duckduckgo but the "Online Threat Prevention" "Search Advisor" does not, how come?
Brave search is not supported by "traffic light", and when going to google having the "traffic light" firefox add-on installed and the "Search Advisor" enabled in the bitdefender total security "Online Threat Prevention" it shows 2 safe search icons.

"2.2. Traffic data - when a user visits a website, it automatically reveals certain information, such as the IP address, date and time of the visit or the referral website that sent you to Bitdefender websites. Bitdefender, like any other website manager, may record this kind of information for a limited period of time. We also use other external services of traffic analysis, such as Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics.
All these data are used exclusively for website improvement or statistical purposes, but also for improving our web services and ensuring their security. Most of these data is being used only as aggregated data. The data is kept only as long as they are necessary for these purposes. The legal basis for this collection is legitimate interest for Improving our website for the ensuring the security of your website. Duration of processing is 1 year from the date of the visit."
But is this collected information linked to your user account? Or is it anonymised by bitdefender?
Thx
1 -
No, it's not information linked to our account, but is anonymized to, by BD.

Thanks @Scott, and how about the traffic light add-on for firefox, I assume this is also anonymised by bitdefender?

Maybe more so for a person who isn't using the BD app, as it's an extension apart from Total Security, AV+ etc. But, I'm not sure of what it collects, and any fingerprinting it may do? Good question.

@Scott
Do you know if duckduckgo and brave search will be added to the supported search engines for the bitdefender total security "Online Threat Prevention" "Search Advisor"?
Thx

I see no mention in the "privacy statement" about the search engines that are compatible with the bitdefender total security search advisor of the online threat prevention feature or if any other search engines would be added in the future.
Thx

Not that I know of. It's been requested before, but since their lower on the "popularity' list haven't been approved. It is a 2 edged sword though, as if they do provide support to those search engines, would probably then be included in the Privacy policy disclosure. I would rather use TrafficLight and uBlock on Brave and be happy as a duck duck go :) :) And if a file was downloaded from those browsers, a installed BD AV's real time shield would scan it as it normally would.

I don't see it mentioned in the privacy policy about which search engines that are supported unless I'm reading the wrong privacy policy: https://www.bitdefender.com/site/view/legal-privacy-policy-for-bitdefender-websites.html
Thx

It's just to be assumed that it it's part of the BD app supported browsers that it would be a part of the policy, unless I'm assuming wrong? :)
For now, I need to get back to work, on a Sunday..ugh :)
Cheers

Can we use the traffic light firefox add-on for Windows ? When I asked this to Bitdefender Support Center, I was told "No, you can still find the extension for windows, but we no longer support it for Windows."

Hello @miechan,
If you are using one of the supported browsers on Windows, Chrome or Firefox, you can get the extension from here:
For me, the extension works well on Chrome. I haven't tried it on Firefox, since I don't really use this browser.
