Who wants to use Bitdefender Premium VPN services on Apple TV?

I recently switched from an Android based mediacenter (Nvidia Shield TV) to the recent Apple TV 4K 2022 model.

Because I'd like to view films and series which are not available in my region I'd like to use the Bitdefender Premium VPN services on my Apple TV as I used it on my Shield TV before.

Unfortunately the BD-VPN app is not available in the Apple TV appstore.

When will this option be available?

  • Hi,

To give you a small insight here, I can tell you that the VPN development teams are considering this and the project is on the roadmap, however we cannot provide a concrete deadline for implementation at this time.

Thanks for posting your suggestion and for voting this idea.

  • BitDefender VPN for Apple TV is missing badly. I’m about to renew my contract - but now without Apple TV support.

  • Es necesario VPN en Apple TV y a mi me gustaría también tenerlo, sería un buen reclamo para más clientes.

  • YES PLEASE

    Hi,

Considering the interest shown for this idea, I moved the topic to the section dedicated to product features and suggestions coming from Bitdefender users. As previously confirmed above, the app is being considered by the developers and we estimate it could become available in Q4, probably towards the end of the year, but I cannot say for sure.

    Thank you for your patience.

  • Thinking of switching to Bitdefender VPN, not having Apple TV app is a missing feature.

  • Well, I would say go for it and see how it works for you. I think there will be an app for Apple TV in the near future.

  • Great to hear this is being considered. Looking forward to it. Just subscribed to Bitdefender VPN and want to use on the  TV.

  • In July 2024, I looked for Bitdefender VPN in the App Store of my App TV and was surprised that it wasn't available. I saw 30 other VPN from competitors available in the App Store of Apple TV. I am hopeful that it will be a new product feature available for Apple TV soon.

  • It’s great to hear that you’ve switched to the Apple TV 4K 2022 model and are looking to use Bitdefender Premium VPN services for accessing geo-restricted content. While Bitdefender VPN offers excellent security and privacy features, it’s true that the dedicated VPN app is not available directly on the Apple TV. However, there are a few alternative methods you can use to run a VPN on your Apple TV.

    Step-by-Step Guide:

    1. Set Up the VPN on Your Router:One of the most efficient ways to use a VPN on devices like Apple TV, which do not have native VPN support, is to configure the VPN on your router. This way, all the devices connected to your Wi-Fi network will automatically be routed through the VPN.
      • Log in to your router’s admin panel.
      • Find the VPN settings (different for each router, so refer to your router’s manual).
      • Input the server details and credentials provided by Bitdefender VPN.
      • Once configured, all internet traffic from your Apple TV will go through the VPN, allowing you to access geo-restricted content.
    2. This method is a bit more technical but can be effective for temporary VPN usage.
      • On Windows:
        • Set up Bitdefender VPN on your PC.
        • Go to Network & Internet Settings > Mobile hotspot, and turn on mobile hotspot.
        • Share your network with your Apple TV by selecting the appropriate connection.
      • On Mac:
        • Set up the VPN on your Mac.
        • Go to System Preferences > Sharing.
        • Enable Internet Sharing and share your connection via Wi-Fi.
    3. Use Smart DNS: If configuring a VPN directly seems complex, another option is using Bitdefender’s Smart DNS feature. It doesn’t encrypt your connection like a VPN, but it does help you unblock geo-restricted content. You’ll need to manually enter the DNS settings provided by Bitdefender into your Apple TV’s network settings.
      • Go to Settings > Network on your Apple TV.
      • Select your Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection.
      • Configure DNS manually, entering the Smart DNS provided by Bitdefender.
    4. Use an Ethernet Connection for Stability: If you’re experiencing slow speeds or buffering, try using an Ethernet cable to connect your Apple TV directly to your router. This provides a more stable connection, especially if your VPN setup is going through multiple devices or networks.

    Have a Nice Day!!
