Computer Not Waking Up After Install Of Bitdefender
Since installing BitDefender a few days ago when my computer goes to sleep I cannot wake it up and am forced to reboot, getting a "Windows did not close properly" message.
I can't fins anything in the settings and "Activate profiles automatically" is disabled.
I'm running Windows 7 pro 64 bit and had used Kaspersky for years with no issue. This problem started with the install of BitDefender.
Is there a fix?

Hello,
First, try to adjust Windows power settings:
- Go to Control Panel → Power Options.
- Select "Change plan settings" for your current power plan.
- Click on "Change advanced power settings."
- Expand the "Sleep" section and make sure "Allow wake timers" is set to "Enable" for both battery and plugged-in options.
Also try this:
- Open Device Manager (right-click on "Computer" and select "Manage," then choose "Device Manager").
- Expand the "Network adapters" section.
- Right-click on your network adapter and select "Properties."
- Go to the "Power Management" tab.
- Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
If this doesn't make any difference, do the following:
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator (right-click and select "Run as administrator").
- Type the following command and press Enter:
powercfg -h off
- This will disable hibernation, which can sometimes interfere with sleep settings.
Finally, if nothing helps:
- Uninstall Bitdefender completely using the uninstall tool for your product available here:
- Restart your computer.
- Reinstall Bitdefender and see if the issue persists.
Let us know how it goes.

I'll try these steps, thank you. I noticed that when I opened Device Manager under Network Adapters I have both Kaspersky Security Data Escort Adapter and Kaspersky Security Data Escort Adapter #2 installed. I installed Bitdefender as a replacement for Kaspersky and uninstalled Kaspersky first.
What are these two adapters, are they relevant to my problem, and should I leave them or remove them?

Check if the steps stated below help.
1) Uninstall the Kaspersky product using the Kaspersky uninstall tool (select the Kaspersky product that was installed on your Windows system from the uninstall tool drop-down menu):
Since you have uninstalled Kaspersky and also used the Kaspersky uninstall tool, it's safe to remove the "Kaspersky Security Data Escort Adapter" and "Kaspersky Security Data Escort Adapter #2" entries.
- Right-click on each adapter and select "Uninstall device."
- Check the box that says "Delete the driver software for this device" (if it appears).
- Click "Uninstall."
2) Disable Fast Startup:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
- Click "Choose what the power buttons do."
- If you see a message saying "Change settings that are currently unavailable," click it.
- Uncheck "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" under Shutdown settings.
- Click "Save changes."
Note: Fast Startup is currently enabled on my device. If it's not already disabled on your device, kindly try disabling it and click 'Save changes' to save the changes.
3) BitDefender Profile Settings:
- Open your BitDefender program.
- Navigate to Utilities → Profiles → Settings.
- Disable the following profiles: “Activate profiles automatically,” “Work Profile,” “Movie Profile,” “Game Profile,” “Public Wi-Fi Profile,” and "Battery Mode Profile"
4) Hard Disk Power Options:
To prevent freezing after waking up from sleep, adjust the power options for your hard disk.
- Go to Control Panel → Power Options.
- Kindly ensure that 'Plans shown under the battery meter' is set to 'Balanced (recommended)'
- Click 'Change plan settings' under the 'Balanced (recommended)' plan to modify your current settings.
- Next, click 'Change Advanced power settings', then expand the 'Hard disk' section and further expand the 'Turn off hard disk after' option.
- Click on 'On battery' and 'Plugged in' (Minutes), set the value to '0', which will display as 'Never', and then click 'Apply' to save the changes.
If the issue persists, kindly contact Bitdefender support by visiting
Select, How to's & Troubleshooting Bitdefender products→Troubleshooting→I don't know→Contact Support→ You will get the option of chat, call or email.

- Uninstalled the Kaspersky adapters as instructed
- Under "what power buttons do" "Change settings that are currently unavailable" does not appear. Thus, "Turn on fast startup" doesn't appear anywhere that I can find.
- All of the options under Bitdefender Profiles are (and were) disabled.
- Under the Balanced Power Options setting the hard drive to never turn off is not an option. The default is 20 minutes but you can increase that to any amount it appears. I set it to not turn off for 5000 minutes and my computer would not shut off at all. I clicked the "Start" "Shut Down" as I always do and all of the icons left the screen but the background image remained and the computer would not turn off. I restored the default time of 20 minutes but still have the problem of once the computer goes to sleep I can't wake it. This was not happening with Kaspersky. Something in Bitdefender is creating this issue.

Hi, I've updated the steps for 'Hard Disk Power Options' in my previous comment. Additionally, the steps for 'Disable Fast Startup' are correct. I've also updated the images for both in my previous comment.

First, I appreciate your help with this problem.
I'm on a desktop, not a laptop so there is no "on battery" or "plugged in option", not sure that matters. Under the balanced plan settings I have set them both to "Never". But I don't have a "never" option for turning the hard disc off. I've attached an image of my Advanced Settings window so you can see what I'm talking about.

That's it. Change the value from '20' to '0' and click apply. A value of '0' means never.

Thanks Flexx, I'm afraid I just gave up. It continued to lock up so bad I had to go back to a restore point prior to installing Bitdefender. I removed it and went with a different brand.

Thanks alexcarey. It became too much of a hassle so I removed it. I am using it on another computer and if I replace my old desktop in the next year as planned I will try reinstalling. The brand I switched to is working flawlessly. However, long term, I don't want to have two antivirus subscriptions to pay for so hope to upgrade and use Bitdefender down the road.
