Unable To Install Bitdefender Due To Unable To Delete Kaspersky Total Security. Any Help?
I just uninstalled Kaspersky from my laptop using the downloaded file from Kaspersky's URL https://kas.pr/kvrmvr as directed by tech support from Kaspersky. I ran the downloaded program kavremvr.exe . I took out all the installations of the Kaspersky modules one at a time with reboots after each one of them.
I tried installing Bitdefenderon this same laptop and I was stopped because it said I needed to remove Kaspersky. I ran the program to remove it but it failed to do so.
Any suggestions on what to do now?

Hello @Adonizedek and welcome to Bitdefender and the Community!
Have you used this uninstall tool for Kaspersky?
As the provider indicates, this tool removes the antivirus applications that cannot be removed completely using standard Windows tools. If the antivirus cannot be removed completely using this tool, I would recommend contacting the service provider for further assistance.
Let us know how it goes.

I could not finish the Bitdefender install because I could not uninstall Kaspersky. Error 29023. Why has this not been resolved in the newest version of the Bitdefender install? I’m keeping Kaspersky on my computer.

Hi @RT
Try uninstalling Kaspersky using revo uninstaller, I use this program all the time to completely remove programs and apps from my pc.
Revo allows you to delete any remaining files left behind when you uninstall a program.
You can download it from here: https://www.revouninstaller.com/revo-uninstaller-free-download/

Kindly check if the steps below help
1) Remove Kaspersky using the Kaspersky Uninstall Tool: https://media.kaspersky.com/utilities/ConsumerUtilities/kavremvr.exe
2) Remove the Bitdefender product that was not properly installed using the Bitdefender Uninstall Tool: https://www.bitdefender.com/files/KnowledgeBase/file/Bitdefender_2023_Uninstall_Tool.exe
3) Clear the temporary files: Open the Run command and execute the following commands one by one:
temp – delete all the files in the folder.

4) Reinstall Bitdefender:

I did all of that… as you instructed, and it's still telling me that I need to uninstall Kaspersky.

I made the mistake of uninstalling Bit Defender and reinstalling it, and now I can't install it because the software detects something that isn't there!

This is really weird. Kaspersky Uninstaller detects all the files and deletes them. Well, in this case, we can try something. It's a bit lengthy procedure, but it has been effective for some users on the forum. If you're willing to proceed with a somewhat lengthy procedure, you can follow the steps stated below.
1) Restart your PC in safe mode. You can follow this guide:
2) Remove Kaspersky using the Kaspersky Uninstall Tool: https://media.kaspersky.com/utilities/ConsumerUtilities/kavremvr.exe
3) Remove the Bitdefender product that was not properly installed using the Bitdefender Uninstall Tool: https://www.bitdefender.com/files/KnowledgeBase/file/Bitdefender_2023_Uninstall_Tool.exe
4) Assuming your Windows drive is 'C,' open the following locations in the 'Run' command (Windows icon + R) one by one:
C:\Program Files (delete any folder named Bitdefender)
C:\Program Files (x86) (delete any folder named Bitdefender)
C:\ProgramData (delete any folder named Bitdefender)
C:\Users{your PC name}\AppData\Local (delete any folder named Bitdefender)
Repeat the same process for 'Kaspersky.'
5) Open the 'Run' command again and execute the following commands one by one:
temp - delete all the files in the folder
%temp% - delete all the files in the folder
prefetch - delete all the files in the folder
6) Open the Registry Editor using the 'Run' command (Windows icon + R), then type 'regedit.' Once the Registry Editor opens, click on 'Edit' -> 'Find,' and ensure the 'Match whole strings only' option is checked. Type 'bitdefender' in the search box and click 'Find Next.' If any file or folder named 'bitdefender' is found, delete it. Continue searching the registry and deleting entries until no more results are found. Repeat the same process for 'kaspersky.'
7) Run Disk Cleanup using this guide:
8) Restart your PC in normal mode by deselecting the option you selected while running the system in Safe Mode, then click 'Apply.'
9) Install your Bitdefender product:
If the issue persists, kindly contact Bitdefender support by visiting

the 3 step advice above did work. I followed every instruction. I was nervous about deleting Kaspersky and not having internet security for about an hour. Also I wasn’t sure which files to delete in temp/%temp%.
Bitdefender was installed without errorsThanks

I managed to fix the problem by simply reinstalling Kaspersky again. This time I've used the Kaspersky Uninstall Tool to completely uninstall it. Before I used the Windows uninstall program. I also noticed that in step 4 I had some Kaspersky and Bitdefender folders still left over so I deleted them. I did check the Registry and I had to remove a couple of files.
I did all of this without having to use Safemode.
Thanks again for the help.

I'm having the same issue. Evidently during the change over Kaspersky Total Security did not uninstall properly and I didn't get the new AV of questionable use. So, no 3rd party uninstallers or even the Kaspersky removal tool recognizes or sees KTS. Kaspersky and Ultra AV have been no help. Only Bitdefender recognizes Total Security and won't install.

@tg8888 check the registry for this: InstallWIX_{0124CD8C-8A9A-4A95-BF8C-F084040A93CE} and delete it from there.
There was another user who switched from kaspersky and they encountered the same issue apparently.
Let us know if deleting that solves the issue or not.

No luck, used the find function on Regedit and found a number of InstallWIX but none with the same number.

The latest Bitdefender install kit should install even if Kaspersky is detected.

I'll check on that, I just bought it about a week ago.
