Cannot Shred Files

I tried everything, from claiming ownership of the Folders, try all sorts of fixes that I found online.

Does Bitdefender Fileshredder not have admin rights?

I am the only user and a Admin so how come I cant delete any files?

It always sais I do not have permission, how the ****** do I get the rights/give bitdefender the rights to obliterate those ****** files. It's been weeks that I have been trying to get it to work myself.

  • Hello @UnknownPotato,

If you want to remove a file permanently from your system, you need to delete the data physically from your hard disk. The Bitdefender File Shredder will help you to quickly shred files or folders from your computer using the Windows contextual menu, by following these steps:

In the event you are encountering permission errors, I would recommend contacting the Technical Support Teams, as more information might be required to troubleshoot this. You can get in touch with our engineers by choosing one of the contact channels available here:

Let us know how it goes.

The method you described initially did not work for me. I was not prompted for administrator rights, but encountered this error instead

  • @Rock.87 if the file or folder is currently open in another program or is locked by a running process, Bitdefender most likely cannot shred it. Close all applications that might be using or accessing the file, reboot the system (if necessary) to ensure no background processes are holding onto the file, and try shredding again.

There could be other reasons too, for example if the file path is unusually long, contains special characters, or the file is partially corrupted. Or, another antivirus or security tool (even Windows Controlled Folder Access) might be blocking Bitdefender’s shredder. I can continue the guessing game here, since I cannot know for sure what is causing this error message, so I think the best option would be to gather some logs and have the Support teams investigate further.
