Age of Empires: Definitive Edition problem 2026

Installed from Microsoft Store AOE Definitive Edition, but after 5 minutes playing it stops with a message saying "Warning: a running process may hinder the correct execution of Age of Empires Definitive Edition. This may be a process of an anti virus software, malware, another game or another running process on your PC.". I searched on the web and actually in the Bitdefender Forum there is a thread but from 2019. I'm using BitDefender Total Security in a Windows 11 25H2 notebook.

You can add your game to the exclusion settings of your Bitdefender product by following the steps below.

1) Temporarily disable Bitdefender Protection: https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/28557

2) Set exclusions in Bitdefender Antivirus: https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/13427/

3) Set exclusions in Bitdefender Advanced Threat Defense: https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/2393

4) Allow an app through Bitdefender Firewall: https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/13425/

5) Re-enable real-time protection in Bitdefender

Solved the AoE Definitive Edition issue. It happened because I installed from the Microsoft Store. Uninstalled and installed again, in this case through the XBox App
