Why are there significant differences between system scans on my MacBook Air?

Hi All,

I am a touch baffled (default setting for me in matters IT !) by differences in system scans carried out on my MacBook Air with BD Ultimate Security.

Some scans have taken less than a minute and the log shows single figure thousand items scanned, while others show differing logs results with some showing over a million items scanned in a process taking over half an hour.

I was faced with some unusual responses in my browser this morning, so ran system scan (just in case) and had the just over or less than one minute with single of just into double figure thousand items scanned; ran it a few times. As the scans were undertaken for security reassurance, I was rather less than reassured by the ways in which system scan worked.

Does anyone know of some explanation for the above and whether I need to take any action in order to ensure that system scan does, indeed, scan the whole system each and every time I seek its assurance?

Hello,

Bitdefender has a very smart scanning system in place. With every system scan, Bitdefender will index the files that have already been scanned, and the scan time will greatly decrease. So, if some of the files have not been accessed or tampered with since the previous scan, there's no need to scan them again, and this decreases the time needed for the scan process to finish, and also consumes less system resources. A scan can also be run in high priority mode, so it depends on how you've set it.
