Lost Bd2010 Firewall Service

After restoring my Win 7 Pro 64bit system over the weekend...BD no longer will turn on the Firewall ? All other BD features are working...including updates...etc. Just no Firewall. I get the error reported in the jpg attached. Also...Network...Rules...and Activity in the Firewall settings are now empty...no info/data...etc. Although all my home network settings and PC's are working/communication OK ?

How can I get FW to reactivate in my BD2010 installation ?

Thanks...TimInAz

    Hello TiminAz,

Restoring Windows will in most cases corrupt BitDefender. I recommend running the uninstall tool and then upgrading to BitDefender 2011.

    - The uninstall tool can be found at: http://bitdefender.com/uninstall

    - Restart when prompted.

    - The BitDefender Internet Security 2011 install package can be downloaded from:

    http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/in...r_isecurity.exe

    Keep us posted :)

L.E. @nikki605 that could also be worth a try :)

  • I avoid doing a system restore like the plague. <img class=" />

MS makes it sound so wonderful - one click and you're done. But it hardly ever works that way. You can try the steps in the KB article, but George is right, you may end up having to uninstall/reinstall BD in the end... along with some other programs that no longer work quite right. ;)

    Good luck,

Tried Gary A's 1st option but it failed in the early stages...said it couldn't find path ?

Ran the BD uninstaller from your link...but it left dozens of BD references in the registry after reboot.

Ran the uninstaller again but same result and also both passes reported that "remove application files" had a red X

Is this normal and should I reinstall BDIS with the leftover registry entries now ?

    TimInAz

  • That is normal. Still, I sent you a PM on how to remove the remaining registries.

Thanks...that's great...also...you posted a link for me previously on BDIS 2011 ? Is this a free upgrade and/or will it solve the BD services freezing/graying out all the time ?

    TimInAz

  • In my personal opinion and experience, it will be an improvement over the previous version. It is also free. :)

Thanks George...went ahead and removed 2010 and installed 2011...unfortuately...it only took one day to get the grayed out icon...is there a log or file that will shed some light on what caused this in 2011 ?

Also...install went very smoothly except at the end...there was a screen that said click here for changes in 2010 vs 2011...but something went wrong and I didn't get there ? Can I open something in 2011 to review the plus's...etc...of 2011 over 2010 ?

    Thanks...TimInAz

  • Hi TiminAz,

    1. First please unplug the Internet cable from your computer or disable the Wireless adaptor if you are using one

    2. Click on Start and then choose My Computer/Computer.

    3. Browse to:

    C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2011

    - considering that BitDefender was installed on the default C partition

    4. Double-click on the supporttool.exe file - if you are using Vista or Windows 7, right-click on the supporttool application file and select Run as Administrator

    5. Click on Next, wait a few minutes for the progress bar to complete and then click on Finish

    6. A file will be created on your desktop. Please move it to a location of your choice (i.e. move it on your c:\ drive)

    7. Reconnect your internet cable (only after you have moved the file to the new location)

    8. Upload the created file HERE

    9. Include a detailed description of the issue you are encountering and a screenshot of the error message, if there is one.

    10. Send me a PM (Private Message) with the download link.

    [How to CAPTURE A SCREENSHOT]

    - When the error message is on your screen press the "PrintScreen" key on your keyboard ("PrintScreen" is located at the top of the keyboard, at right; At this step we can not see anything, as the picture is copied into Windows's clipboard);

    - Open a graphic editing application (We recommend using the standard Paint program, that comes with every Windows installation from Start > Programs > Accessories > Paint);

    - Paste the picture in a new Paint document (using Edit > Paste);

    - Save the file in JPEG format

    - attach it to this topic.

Make sure you mask the license key if that screenshot includes the Registration details.

I have also moved the topic into the right category: BitDefender 2011 forums.

    Regards,

  • Hope allowed to address same issue through this forum topic. My firewall does same thing but found I can run troubleshoot wizard which will fix it until next reboot. I have sent a SendSpace URL to Danny by PM and will upload the screen captures of various screens while in the firewall module.

    Hello Rcarter515,

Actually as per our Forum rules you need to create a new topic and explain the issue you encounter. Moreover this topic was created for a 2010 product, not 2011. I have received your PM with the SupportTool log.

I finally do believe that I have a resolution for the issue you encounter. The wireless adapter Atheros AR5B95 you are using is known to cause issues under Windows 7 as also discussed on the Windows 7 forums.

Please uninstall the driver you have installed then try to install the one below:

Click here to download the driver

Once you reinstall the wireless driver please repair BitDefender and let me know if the same issue occur.

To repair BitDefender follow the steps below:

    - Click on the START menu button

    - Go to All Programs -> BitDefender 2011 -> Repair or Remove

    - Follow the on-screen instructions and restart the computer each time you are requested to.

    - update BitDefender by right click on the icon in the System tray and select Update Now

    - Test to see if the issue still replicates.

TiminAz: I believe that you received the gray icon because of a major BitDefender update being installed and the PC not restarted. We have no reports of the Services not responding issue with 2011. Also I would strongly recommend you to double check the Windows Registry and clean it before making the upgrade from 2010 to 2011.

  • Sorry about incorrect forum. As I said I have a ticket open for weeks and no longer receive any response when I ask for updates. I have also seen in the forums references similiar to 2011 firewall issues especially about not communicating which I think if they tried the troubleshoot wizard would replicate my findings.

I followed your instructions and installed the 32bit version of driver even though I have installed new 64bit and returned to original version that was this laptop from purchase (came with Windows 7 64bit) and nothing has worked. I "repaired" BitDefender and updated, then rebooted.

My BitDefender 2010 worked without any issues with these driver versions.
