Realtime Protection Randomly Failing

I note that a number of people on here are having the same problem as me with Bitdefender Total Security Realtime Protection randomly failing to load.

Running the fix does not fix the problem and it usually requires a total system shutdown to get it going again, this in itself only working sometimes.

I've been using Bitdefender Total Security 2010 for almost a year without problem so why on my 64bit Windows 7 system is this not working?

You must have endless log files from customers now so do you not have a fix for this yet?

My license is up soon and I'm seriously thinking of moving to one of the competion.

  • Are you referring to the Death Star issue? That's where you get the gray ball in the system tray and bd stops responding until you restart you computer? This does not happen to me anymore, now I just get massive slowdown and BD using high resources at random times. Make sure that you have no other traces of any security solution on your computer. BD is very sensitive to anything in registry left behind by other security solutions. If you have not tried this already it might be worth a look. Uninstall BD and with the uniinstall tool. restart. run a registry cleaner you trust (like CC cleaner or something else). Remove any remaining BD registry files from the list and any other security solution bits. Then reinstall BD. Also you might want to try decreasing the update interval. Put it on manual or 10 hours or whatever you want. The death star tends to show up more often during updates

  • No it's not the Death Star issue, it's basically the anti virus real time protection failing to load.

I've already unistalled using the uninstaller and even gone through the entire registy and deleted BD references by hand that had been left behind and reinstalled etc. etc and nothing is making a difference.

I've never had any other form of security software on this machine, I installed BD 2010 with Windows 7 when it was released last year.

  • OK I've had no problems for 2 days and now realtime protection has failed again.

Can someone please advise why this is and what is being done to sort the issue out? <img class=" />

  • This gets better all the time!

Now I have the vsserv.exe has failed to start error and even rebooting is not fixing it!

This has to be the buggiest software I've ever installed, can someone from BD please advise what is being done to correct all these problems?

  • Hello Nightgaunt,

Please follow the steps explained in THIS article then send me via PM the requested log file for further analysis.
