System Very Slow After Installing Total Security 2011

Since I have installed 2011 my system performance is terrible. I have run all the optimization options in the Optimizer and perf is still horrible.

Any guidance from all the BD wizards on here? ;)

  • hillsitter - welcome to the forum. :)

To better help you, can you give us a little info on your configuration:

    - CPU (type/speed)

    - Amount of installed memory

    - OS (XP, Vista, 7)

    - Service Packs and are you current with all MS critical updates

    - Architecture (32-bit or 64-bit)

    - Web Browser (IE, Firefox, etc.)

Does the problem show up all the time or just when performing certain tasks or when using certain programs, like only when web browsing or using program X?

Any other relevant information about the system.

Since the launch of BitDefender 2011 almost everyone dealing with a PC slowdown, including at startup, was found to be due to multiple security solutions installed on the PC, causing conflicts with BD.

Do you have any other security program(s) installed - antivirus, antimalware, anti phishing, firewall, etc.?

Is the Windows Firewall turned off?

Did you have any of these types of security programs installed that you uninstalled prior to installing BDTS? If so, how did you uninstall them (normal uninstall program function or the company's "clean removal tool?"

Having this information will give the tech support folks a good starting point to help you.

    Again, welcome,

  • nikki605 - Thank you very much !

  • hillsitter,

I suggest you run the BD SupportTool program that the tech support folks use to help them diagnose problems. The tool will capture the necessary information without having to re-create your problem.

    1. First please unplug the Internet cable from your computer or disable the Wireless adaptor if you are using one. This prevents the supporttools files from being automatically uploaded.

    2. Click on Start and then choose My Computer/Computer.

    3. Browse to:

    C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2011

    - considering that BitDefender was installed on the default C partition

    4. Double-click on the supporttool.exe file - if you are using Vista or Windows 7, right-click on the supporttool application file and select Run as Administrator

    5. Click on Next, wait a few minutes for the progress bar to complete and then click on Finish

    6. A file will be created on your desktop. Please move it to a location of your choice (i.e. move it on your c:\ drive)

    7. Reconnect your internet cable (only after you have moved the file to the new location)

    8. Upload the created file HERE

    9. Include a detailed description of the issue you are encountering and a screenshot of the error message, if there is one.

    10. Send a PM (Private Message) with the download link to DanyDan of tech support. Reference this topic and give him as much detail as possible about this particular PC - exact symptoms, hardware (CPU type/speed, Memory installed, etc.), OS and version, 32-bit or 64-bit, any other security software installed or previously uninstalled. Any other relevant configuration information.

It may take several days for them to analyze the files and respond depending on their workload, so please be patient.

    Regards,

  • I am a long time user of Softwin products, going back for a decade or so.

I recently decided to rebuild my system hardware to make use of a large sata drive.

I have installed my favoured OS, that being XP, SP3 onto a system with 1.8 gb RAM processed by a 2800+ AMD Sempron CPU.

The OS is installed on a 130GB Partiton.

The Problem lies with ANY 2011 product, currently I am trying to use under evaluation Internet security 2011 which installed fine, taking around 11 minutes to complete a pre install scan.

Once installed a simple Scan, in fact any scan completely locks up my system, reporting that a quick system scan will take some 2 and a half hours...a full scan was ridiculously reported as being pencilled in to take 86 hours and 37 minutes, this is remember a 130 gb partition containing less than 14gb of data.

I would appreciate some guidance before I have to forget about BD and purchase either Kaspersky or AVG or lets face it one of many equally effective AV products on the market.

    Hi,

First of all please note that I created a ticket regarding your issue and sent you the results of the analysis via email. The ticket ID is: 201010101002969.

Note that the slowdown you occur at the moment is because you have five (5) security solutions installed on the same PC:

    - Windows Microsoft Essentials (with Security Essentials)

    - Norton Internet Security

    - BitDefender Total Security 2011

    - Norton AntiVirus

    - Norton Protection Center

    - Spybot - Search & Destroy - with the Windows registry protection enabled

Check your email for instructions on how to remove all these software and have only one installed.

If you have any further queries feel free to contact us anytime!

    Kind regards,

  • Dan,

Thank you very much - I had no idea that Norton was still hiding out on my PC. I hate that program - it's been like a plague in this household since I used it once many years ago.

I did what you listed and my system performance seems to be just fine so far. Haven't been on it long but it's already a significant improvement.

Only issue was the error I got on the last step as BD was already installed.

    Seems to be fine now!

    Thanks again,

    Larry
