What's the difference between "product password" vs "master password" vs "bitdefender password"?
Being new to Bitdefender, having joined after the 2024 Kaspersky "purge", I'm getting a bit confused about which password the various faces of BitDefender are asking me for as I navigate this new BitDefender world where things that were automatic/already setup/passwords were saved/etc. have now been reset due to the switch from Kaspersky ⇒ BitDefender. This leaves me with questions about exactly which password associated with the BitDefender "suite" of products, websites, plugins, etc. a given BitDefender prompt is asking me to enter.
I've had various BitDefender apps/sites/etc. ask me for "… your password", "the password", "the master password", "the product password", etc.. Now I get this vagueness is part of the protection scheme in that it makes it more difficult, proportedly, for the "bad guys/gals" to break in, BUT, come ON!!!
It doesn't do very much good if the system itself is too confusing to use and the users end up shutting it off out of need to be able to use their own systems!
PLEASE… someone help me understand, in just a few sentences NOT a three page response, what is the difference between "master password" vs "product password" vs the password I use to log into BitDefender Central vs the password I use to open Password Managage for Bitdefender so I can start to remember which one to type when to get my work done.

Below is the breakdown:
- Bitdefender Central Password: Used to log in to your Bitdefender Central account and manage subscriptions, product licenses, and device connections.
- Bitdefender Product Password: When you install a product on your specific device, it asks you for login details so that your product can synchronize with your online Bitdefender Central account. The login details are the same as your Bitdefender Central password.
- Password Asked While Running Scans: Some files are password-protected by Microsoft, typically system-related files of Windows, which you should ignore as messing with them can cause your system to become unstable. However, there may also be some password-protected files created by the user for personal protection; the password is known to the user.
- Bitdefender Password Manager Password: This is the same as your Bitdefender Central password.
- Bitdefender Master Password: It is a single password or passphrase that unlocks all the passwords stored in a Bitdefender Password Manager account
- Bitdefender Recovery Key: If you forget your password for the Bitdefender Password Manager, you can use the recovery key to recover your saved login details for various websites.
Rest assured, @Alexandru_BD can check on this and provide more information or edit the post to correct the provided details.

Hello @TheOriginalFreak and welcome to Bitdefender and the community.
I'll make it simple for you. The Bitdefender password is the password you use to login into your Central account.
Bitdefender Central is the online portal for subscription management, product installation, device security monitoring & support. More information about Bitdefender Central can be found in the article below:If you’re not the only person who has administrative rights to a specific computer, then it is recommended that you protect your Bitdefender settings with a password. That would be the "product password" and you can read more about it here:
Basically, this is a password that you can use in the actual Bitdefender UI, so in the product and not Central.
If your subscription also includes the Password Manager (or if you have a separate PM subscription from the antivirus), well as the name implies, this will have a Master Password. The Master Password is the key that unlocks the door to all the passwords stored in your Bitdefender Password Manager account (not Central, not the antivirus, but the Password Manager browser extension).
Let us know if things are clearer now and if you have any questions.
