Vpn should contain a feature of auto update

Bitdefender VPN should be configured to auto-update. Despite Bitdefender's hourly update setting, the VPN hasn't updated in several days :

Which is causing issues like hiding the connected locations' names.

I have been advised by the administrator that a complete reinstallation of the VPN is necessary to obtain the latest update. This is not the standard update procedure, and many users who may not actively monitor the Bitdefender forum could unknowingly be using an outdated version of the VPN, potentially exposing themselves to security and privacy risks.

There is a difference between a product update and a malware signature update. The one-hour time interval that is set is for the malware signature update. Product updates are not issued on a daily or weekly basis; they will only be available if there are any improvements to make. This may happen once a week, once a month, once every two months, or something like that.

When I checked your installed version against mine, yours seems to be outdated. That being said, it appears that the batch containing your product has not yet received the updates, but sooner or later, it will receive them.

Below is an image of the Bitdefender standalone VPN software installed on my PC.

  • @Rock.87 I advised reinstalling the VPN to check if the latest kit is available for you. Like @Flexx mentioned above, the antivirus updates are not always synchronized with VPN updates, and by that I mean that it is not mandatory for a product update to also include an update for the VPN. These are usually carried out separately.

Bitdefender VPN updates are managed automatically by the application. When a new version becomes available, the app typically updates itself without requiring manual intervention. However, updates may be rolled out gradually, so not all users receive them simultaneously. If you notice that your VPN hasn't updated to the latest version, restarting your computer can prompt the update process.

There's an older thread on this topic as well:

These components should be updated alongside Bitdefender updates. For instance, if Bitdefender VPN is purchased as part of a security package, the entire suite should be updated simultaneously

Yes, the VPN is installed alongside the security solution, but technically speaking these are separate components that are being handled by separate teams. On one hand there's the security solution and updates are carried out in a specific way for this, because Bitdefender updates its virus definitions daily, and major version updates happen about once every four weeks. On the other hand, there's the VPN and all its features, and the updates between the two cannot be synchronized due to multiple reasons. For example, if a bug is discovered, or if some improvements are released with a product update, these must be rolled out as soon as they are available and cannot be paired with a VPN update, if one isn't available or necessary at that time. Similarly, if an update is required for the VPN, and an antivirus update has been recently released already, the VPN teams can't wait until the next update window (which can take weeks), so that they can roll out their VPN update which may be time sensitive.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the need for updates may vary between components. The antivirus software typically requires frequent updates to keep its malware definitions and scanning engines current, as explained above, whereas the VPN app might not require updates as frequently, unless there's a major change to security protocols or infrastructure.

In conclusion, these components are developed and maintained by separate teams, even if they are part of the same product suite or bundled together. Each team may have its own development timeline, priorities, and release schedules.

I hope things are clearer now.
