Hello @Rally1960,
If it's ads you are seeing, then most likely these were not actually blocked by Bitdefender previously (except if you were using the ad-blocker available in the VPN app. But that one works as long as you are connected to the VPN).
If by 'the wall' you are refering to the firewall in Bitdefender, most software-based firewalls do not have built-in ad-blocking features. But you can use the firewall to create custom rules to block known ad-serving domains, or block entire ranges of IP addresses associated with ad servers.
I would recommend Ublock Origin or AdGuard to block ads, and I also recommend using the Bitdefender Anti-tracker extension, to stop tracking cookies.

Hello.
To add here, this is my winning combination against adware:
Google Chrome + uBlock Origin Lite
and
Mozilla Firefox + uBlock Origin
And i never (i really mean NEVER) had any issues with adware (notifications, adds, pop-ups, browser redirects, etc.).
Regards.

I completely agree with this, the same combination I use, as well as with Brave setting its filter to Aggressively block trackers and ads, does get the same results as with uBlock on the other browsers.
edit: @Alexandru_BD and I really like your 2nd option for an ad blocker, AdGuard. If I were going to use anything else besides uBlock, that would be the one :)

After Google's Manifest V3 extension policy change, AdGuard is not as effective at blocking ads. While basic ads are blocked, it is not possible to enable all filters as you can with uBlock Origin Lite due to Google's restrictions on certain ad blocker filters. Additionally, AdGuard consumes more CPU resources compared to other ad blockers. It used to be my favorite when Manifest V2 extensions were still supported.
However, there is a workaround. If you want to enable all of AdGuard's filters and bypass Google's MV3 extension policy, you can use the standalone AdGuard software for Windows.
The web browser extensions that I personally use are uBlock Origin Lite, Ghostery, and Disconnect, along with uBlock Origin. I continue to use uBlock Origin because it offers the right-click option to create manual filters, and I have an extensive list of custom filters that I don’t want to lose.
That being said, uBlock Origin still blocks more ads compared to uBlock Origin Lite. With this setup, my Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge Chromium browsers are well-protected from ads, adware, pop-ups, and other online nuisances.
If you want to take your protection a step further, you can also install another web browser extension: Malwarebytes Browser Guard. It not only safeguards you from ads, adware, and pop-ups but also blocks a wide range of malicious and phishing sites, providing an added layer of security.
