App Hacked

edited February 28 in Privacy

I have had Bitdefender for desktop a number of years now and have been very satisfied. Recently however I have had some real issues with the app itself being hacked whether I uninstall and reinstall or not. Is there anything that can be done before I begin to look for another defense. Which I would rather not do

  • What exactly do you mean by the Bitdefender product being hacked? I have promoted you to Level 2 so that you can share the screenshot with us.

  • Hi @MCoin8,

That doesn't mean that the Bitdefender app was hacked, it has something to do with the secure browser. @camarie are you familiar with this type of error in SafePay?

    Thanks!

ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED means the DNS cannot determine the IP address of a hostname. For example, if I try to access microsofttttt.com instead of microsoft.com the DNS system will report this error.
The DNS errors, while rare, are not uncommon.

Maybe it is a glitch on the DNS system you are using (usually the internet provider ensures this), or is a temporary glitch? You can check, in this order, if

    • your network connection is active and connected to the internet
    • note the domain reported as not found and try it in another browser to see if you encounter the same or similar error.

Safepay does not have a special DNS handling. There might be other network-related components that might encounter errors, I will not exclude that without knowing more, but for the moment let's make sure it is not a temporary condition.

Waiting for your feedback, thank you.

  • Thank you for your response. Well yes I have checked other browsers and I'm having the same search issue. But there has been another ongoing issue of programs that normally load within the app that don't anymore.

  • With regard to my app issues I am connected to the Internet via Ethernet. And am experiencing issues with both SafePay and issues with programs that normally load in their own not loading and requiring my permission. I'm not comfortable with that. I have provided a screenshot

That is not an indication of malware AFAIK, but only a notification from firewall regarding activity. I am not well versed in firewall, so I will ask a colleague knowing more than me to step in.

  • Thanks

  • I am unable to use Safepay for the first time since I became a subscriber. When I create a link to a web address it just sits there doesn't load. Has anyone had this issue?

It is the same DNS error, ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED ?

  • Unresolved issues Safepay browser nor working/ firewall issues

This is not a Safepay issue. Operation timeout is a common error. Safepay uses the network, it does not control it in any way.
If you temporarily disable firewall, does the Safepay error still occur? How about in another browser?
