Adware infection Chrome - Unable to enter Rescue Environment

Dad's computer has a lot of popups using Chrome. Like, LOTS of you are infected, etc. So we purchased BD but its not cured it. Not really impressed at this point. Anyhow, attemtping to use RE based on a post linked here: https://community.bitdefender.com/en/discussion/96206/virus-is-not-being-detected

I have done everything except run BD is RE. When it reboots, windows goes into startup repair and never gets to RE. Not sure what to try next but my expereience with BD so far has been lackluster.

    Hi @chaznsc

What you're describing is more of a browser related issue (Chrome) than a Bitdefender scan issue.

See if this article and post help.

You may have to totally uninstall and reinstall Chrome after deleting the temp files.

After at least using one of the above methods, I would clear out your temp files by using Run (type in search box) and delete any temp and %temp% files you can, and restart your PC. @Flexx who is very good at these things may also have a suggestion or two.

    Kind regards

  • Need to confirm—since you enabled Bitdefender Rescue Environment and restarted the system, instead of booting into Bitdefender Rescue Environment, it displays Startup Repair.

If so, it's possible that there is an issue with the boot manager of your system or that a system file has been corrupted or deleted.

In this case, there is little or nothing that can be done except resetting or reinstalling Windows from scratch.

If luck favors you, you might be able to boot into Safe Mode and try System Restore to see if it works.

    To do this:

    1. Restart your PC and press F8 (or Shift + F8) repeatedly before Windows starts.
    2. If you see the Advanced Startup Options, select Safe Mode.
    3. Once in Safe Mode, go to Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore and choose a restore point before the issue started.
