I had Proton VPN prior to get Bitdefender Antivirus, is it ok to use these 2 services together or is it better to use the Bitdefender VPN with Bitdefender Antivirus? Any feedback appreciated.
It is generally acceptable to use ProtonVPN alongside Bitdefender antimalware, and many users do so without significant issues. These two services perform different functions—Bitdefender focuses on protecting the system from malware, phishing, and other threats, while ProtonVPN provides encrypted internet access to enhance online privacy and security. They are not inherently incompatible, and running them together can offer a well-rounded security setup.
However, there are a few considerations to keep in mind. While Bitdefender antimalware and ProtonVPN are technically compatible, some users have reported minor conflicts or performance issues when both are active. For instance, ProtonVPN may occasionally hang during connection or disconnection if Bitdefender actively monitors network activity. Additionally, the Bitdefender firewall component might interfere with ProtonVPN ability to route traffic correctly, causing certain applications to behave unexpectedly. These issues do not affect all users and can often be resolved by adjusting settings such as VPN protocols or firewall rules.
Bitdefender offers its own VPN, which is designed to work seamlessly with Bitdefender antimalware. Bitdefender VPN generally provides a smoother experience in terms of system integration and ease of use. However, it comes with limitations. The basic version of Bitdefender VPN includes a daily data cap of 200 MB. To remove the data cap and unlock additional functionality, upgrading to Bitdefender VPN Premium is required, which is a paid feature.
In conclusion, it is entirely possible to use ProtonVPN and Bitdefender antimalware together, and doing so can provide enhanced overall protection. It is important to be mindful of potential conflicts and to test how they interact on your specific system. If any issues arise, adjusting network settings or reaching out to respective vendor support may help resolve them.
