Is trojan.zmutzy.819 found on bitdefender a false positive?

I found trojan.zmutzy.819 on my outlook file: archive.pst using bitdefender total security 2020. This trojan cannot be removed without deleting the outlook file (which would mean all my mails from past years are lost)

I copied the file into a micro SD card and my IT team helped scan it using another other reputable anti-virus program but could not find this trojan, they did some checking online and deduce this could be a false positive.

I wanted to check it myself so:

1. I rescanned again using bitdefender total security 2020 and found the trojan.zmutzy.819. I did not delete the file and set it to ignore.

2. I un-installed bitdefender and consecutively installed 4 different anti-virus softwares (one after another) but none was able to find this trojan.zmutzy.819.

My archive.pst file is over 6G, what can I do to determine this is truly a false positive?

Hi Member,

1) Each AV vendor has different detection name to malicious files.

2) Not every AV vendor can detect every malicious file.

3) You can check a particular file on virustotal.com to check as to how many different AV vendors detect a particular file to be malicious.

4) If you find a file to be detected by mistake by bitdefender, you can fill up the online forum (https://www.bitdefender.com/submit/) and submit the respective file to bitdefender malware researchers directly. If the detection stays even after 72 hours, then the file is considered to be malicious as per bitdefender malware researchers.
