Terminal Commands Blocked

I have an issue whereby BitDefender blocks the command every time I enter a command in the terminal on macOS (e.g. mkdir, touch, mv). I am given the option to authorise the command by entering my password; however, I am only given the option to allow this for 5 minutes.

I have allowed application access under ransomware for Terminal along with /bin/mkdir among others but this has not fixed the issue.

Is there any workaround for this? It significantly slowing my workflow.

Cheers,

Trent.

    Hello.

First, take screenshot(s) of the issue

and create a log file on your MacOS device using BDProfiler, by following these steps:

    https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/1863/

Next, contact Bitdefender Consumer Support by e-mail:

    https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/help/

    or

    https://community.bitdefender.com/en/discussion/91918/bitdefender-websites-and-bitdefender-consumer-support-contacts

with short description of the issue.

After that, you will get an automated reply by the Bitdefender Customer Care Team, with your ticket number.

Now, in reply to that automated reply, you can send the screenshot(s) you already took and the log file you already created in the first step.

Since you are all done, just wait for the support engineers to investigate your issue and find a solution to fix the issue.

Remember that the screenshot(s) and the log file will help a lot to the support engineers for better and faster investigation on your issue and finding a solution.

    Regards.

  • I'm having this exact same issue. It would be SUPER helpful if there was an answer here to help us without having to jump through hoops or without having to spend an hour collecting all of the information you're asking for. This is obviously a common issue. Please just offer a solution.

I would try contacting support, and see if they have a solution on file for you to resolve this issue. They would then tell you if they needed anything from your end, of what and when they may need it, it may save you some time in that way.

Go through the How To's & Troubleshooting prompts until reach the black Contact Support box. You will have three options, Chat, email and phone support, which is not toll-free. Chat can be the quickest way to get things started.

  • Here are a few workarounds that you can try:

    1) Disable BitDefender's Safe Files protection. This will allow you to run any command in the terminal without being prompted by BitDefender. However, this is not recommended, as it will also disable protection against ransomware and other malware.

    2) Add the Terminal app to BitDefender's trusted applications list. This will allow you to run commands in the Terminal app without being prompted by BitDefender. To do this, open BitDefender, go to Protection > Ransomware > Manage Applications, and add the Terminal app to the list of trusted applications.

    3) Use the sudo command to run commands with administrator privileges. This will bypass BitDefender's Safe Files protection. To do this, prefix the command with sudo and enter your password when prompted. For example, to run the mkdir command with administrator privileges, you would type sudo mkdir /tmp/mydir.

    4) Contact BitDefender support for assistance. If you have tried the above workarounds and are still having problems, you can contact BitDefender support for assistance. They may be able to provide you with a more permanent solution to the problem.

Here are some additional tips for working with BitDefender and the Terminal app:

    1) If you are not sure whether a command is safe to run, you can always consult BitDefender's knowledge base or contact BitDefender support for assistance.

    2) You can also use the man command to view the manual page for a particular command. This will provide you with more information about the command, including its syntax and possible arguments.

    3) If you are still having problems with BitDefender and the Terminal app, you can try disabling BitDefender temporarily and then running the commands that you need to run. Once you have finished running the commands, you can then re-enable BitDefender.
