Is it normal for Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool to just run randomly?

Just got a notification from glasswire that it started running/hopped on the web. I know it itself isn't malware, but what is it doing? Removing malware? I'm pretty sure I don't have any malware.

I just checked and turns out windows is installing an update- could that be why?
