Why Anti-Tracker Extension is missing on Firefox Add-ons page?

Options

Like in the title :)

I see that Anti-Tracker extension is missing under addons.mozilla.org webpage. When we look deeper we can see that there is only Traffic Light extension there (under Bitdefender developer) : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/user/5211286/

When we try to install Anti-Tracker extension from Bitdefender App we are redirected to: https://download.bitdefender.com/windows/desktop/connect/antitracker/bdateff.xpi

It is possible to install the extension (from xpi file), however such approach (not to have it in store) might be seen as "shady". On the other hand, Chrome Anti-Tracker extension is normally available from Chrome Extenstion Web-store.

So what is a reasoning behind such approach?

Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

I think it's because this particular extension is installed alongside Bitdefender, during the antivirus install process, so it doesn't guide the user in the mozilla store to install it from there, and Firefox at some point removed support for this approach.

    Hi @Alexandru_BD !

First of all thanks a lot for Your answer.

Regarding Anti-Tracker extension not being available under Mozilla store: Traffic Light Extension is also installed during Bitdefender installation ( or at least it tries, as Firefox asks You if You want to proceed with installation on first opening after Bitdefender is installed) at yet it is available under Mozilla store.

I am not saying it is a big deal. However, it is a little bit inconsistent (two extensions from same provider dealt in different fashion). I also think that Anti-Tracker might be seen as less "legit" by some people when it is not available under Mozilla store.

    Hello @Trox,

    You are most welcome!

As far as I know, the Traffic Light extension can be installed from the product UI after the antivirus installation only on MacOS:

On Windows, Traffic Light is separate from Bitdefender itself, it's an extension available only in the addons store.

As for the Anti-tracker extension, this is the current install flow for Windows:

Thank you for your observations and feedback. 🙂
