Using Split tunnel to whitelist instead of blacklist

Hello,

I would like to know if it possible to use Split tunneling in reversed manner.

Instead of selecting which apps and website will bypass VPN. it will be which apps and websites will use VPN.

Comments

  • Bitdefender VPN doesn't currently offer a built-in "reverse split tunneling" feature that directly allows you to specify only certain apps or websites to use the VPN while routing everything else outside of it. However, there are a couple of workarounds you can consider:

    1. Selective App and Domain Protection:

    • While not a direct reverse split tunneling feature, Bitdefender VPN's "AutoConnect" settings allow you to specify apps and domains that will automatically trigger a VPN connection when launched.
    • To access this:
      • Open Bitdefender VPN.
      • Navigate to Settings.
      • Go to AutoConnect.
      • Under "Apps and Domains," add the specific apps or websites you want to always use the VPN.

    2. Manual VPN Connection and Split Tunneling:

    • Manually connect to the VPN when you want to use it for specific activities.
    • Then, use the regular split tunneling feature to exclude apps or websites that you don't want to route through the VPN, effectively creating a "reverse" effect.

  • Thank you guys and good points there. Split Tunneling allows you to route any website outside the VPN connection, to access the Internet directly, and this feature was created specifically for this purpose. 'Whitelisting' can indeed be achieved by setting up Auto-connect for specific applications or websites and website categories.

  • Thank you for the suggestion. but using auto connect feature will just be the same as connecting to vpn manually.

li want to enable the vpn for specific game or website. and everything else should be direct connecting. it's hard to block all windows services and other apps.

one issue i am facing currently is the ability to use vpn along side with smart tv. It can't be found as projector device or chrome cast since the vpn is enabled.

  • Kindly contact Bitdefender support by visiting https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/

Based on your selected product and the type of issue you're facing, you can get in touch with a support representative through email, chat, or a phone call.

If you choose email, you will receive a ticket number on your registered email. The support team will reply within the next 24-48 hours, excluding weekends.

    Hi @Mrhashishah,

Have you tried to enable VPN on your smartphone, then create a hotspot and connect the TV to it? That could be a workaround to use an encrypted connection for a while. Mind you, this may drain your phone battery quicker.
