Does McAfee and AVG fake infections to Sell their Products
My laptop showed 18 viruses by McAfee since it was on my system when I purchased it, and it suddenly popped into notification. I then ran a AVG free and it pointed out 3 Trojans. Searching for best anti virus, I found Bit Defender stood out ahead of McAfee and AVG. . But when I purchased a copy and installed, it showed no virus found. So am a bit confused

The warning about McAfee that appears on your desktop is adware. It is not directly related to the original product itself. As for AVG, it seems like it is the original product. Moving forward, follow the steps as stated below.
Download and run the McAfee and AVG uninstallers from the link stated below as a precautionary measure.
McAfee uninstaller: https://download.mcafee.com/molbin/iss-loc/SupportTools/MCPR/MCPR.exe
AVG uninstaller: https://install.avcdn.net/avg/iavs9x/avgclear.exe?alt=en-ww
Have a look at the information and solutions provided by McAfee themselves in the links stated below.
