Trouble With Playing Vimeo Videos. What Should I Do?
I have been using a website that hosts vimeo videos for accountancy training but as of this week I get this error on the video and it wont work.
"Sorry
Because of its privacy settings, this video cannot be played here."
I have tried the site on different computers without Bitdefender and it works perfectly.
Has something recently changed with Bitdefender Premium Security?

I have been having the same issue with videos on a site that I manage.
I know we did not change anything on the site so I looked at other options.
It seems that turning off the "BitDefender Anti Tracker" in my google browser means I can see the videos again.

Hi @Patch,
That's very interesting, thank you for sharing your findings with us.
Also, it is not necessary to turn off the Anti-Tracker completely, you can also add an exception for a particular website by following these instructions:
- Open your web browser.
- Click the Anti-Tracker icon next to the search bar.
- Click the settings icon in the upper-right corner.
- If you are on the website you want to add to exceptions, click Add current website to the list.
If you would like to add another website, type its address in the corresponding field, and then click "add".
This will allow trackers while visiting a particular website and can solve any access issues.
@Joshg22 are you also using the Anti-Tracker extension by any chance? Let us know.
Cheers

Hello.
Taken from here:
“Sorry, Because of its privacy settings, this video cannot be played here”
If you’re seeing this error in the player, the video you are watching has domain-level privacy enabled. Learn more at 'Set your video's viewing privacy before uploading' The video’s owner can adjust the domains where a video can appear within “Where can this video be embedded?” section of the embed settings page.
If the domain is listed in your video settings page, but the error is still appearing, the domain specified in your address bar may be different from the domain sent to the Vimeo player. In these cases, a privacy error may appear. Contact a web developer to confirm if there is anything in your site's HTML code that could be blocking the referrer from reaching our player iframe.
Also, if you are using Bitdefender VPN, check out this article:
and see if the steps in the article will help you.
Regards.

Hi,
I appreciate this, but it hasn't solved the issue. the videos don't work with VPN on or off. so it isn't the VPN I don't think. I've reached out to the company who's website it is and they haven't made any changes to their site and as I mentioned above, the site works fine on two other computers I have tested which don't have Bitdefender installed.
No idea what the issue is but maybe it cannot be resolved.
Thanks

In that case, follow the next steps:
First, take screenshot(s) of the issue,
create a log file on your Windows device using Bitdefender Support Tool, by following these steps:
and
create a log file on your Windows device using BDsysLog, by following these steps:
Next, contact Bitdefender Consumer Support by e-mail:
with short description of the issue.
After that, you will get an automated reply by the Bitdefender Customer Care Team, with your ticket number.
Now, in reply to that automated reply, you can send the screenshot(s) you already took and the log files you already created in the first step.
Since you are all done, just wait for the support engineers to investigate your issue and find a solution to fix the issue.
Remember that the screenshot(s) and the log files will help a lot to the support engineers for better and faster investigation on your issue and finding a solution.
Regards.

Hello,
If the VPN is not causing this behaviour, you could also try to temporarily disable the security modules in Bitdefender, and check the videos after each deactivation, to see if they work. This would help identify the root cause. Make sure to re-enable your defenses once the troubleshooting process is done. You can find the steps on how to do this in the article below:
Let us know how it goes. If the culprit can be found this way, we'll advise on the next steps to follow, depending on the cause.

Thank you both, this did the trick! I am using the Anti-Tracker extension and have followed your instructions and now it works!
How strange that one day this decided to not like Vimeo videos.
Thank you everyone for your help.

I have the same issue with the Anti-tracker and Vimeo videos, if their privacy settings are set to certain domain. I've figured it out, when our online courses stopped to work for people using Bit deffender. Would it be possible to fix that issue? Is there any coordidation with Vimeo required?

Hi @aztechowski,
Follow my instructions above and let us know if they are helpful:
Also, have a look at Gjoksi's comment:
It seems that Vimeo doesn't like the Anti-tracker much 🙂

Thanks for posting this. I was also having the security privacy error on vimeo hosted videos and turning off bit-defender solves it.

Sorry Because of its privacy settings, this video cannot be played here.
I made NO changes! Please help reverse whatever made OUR videos quit working! Apparently, this has been happening for years now, why?
Following instructions I went to your link 'Set your video's viewing privacy before uploading' but it is BROKEN -and impertinent to my situation as a viewer.
I do not understand how to do what others on this page have mentioned, e.g. "If the domain is listed on your video settings page..." where is that page and how do I get to it. I need very basic instructions after my computer is on and Chrome is open:) I am using a Surface Pro 7 with Windows 11.
I understand "turn Bitdefender OFF" may work but that is no solution and defeats the purpose of bitdefender, plus I do not know how except task manager, maybe:) My VPN and Anti-tracker are off but I do not know how or why.
Can you please help me, too?
Further, I have trouble navigating these hundreds of communications platforms to find and re-find messages and such.
Sincerely,
A Very Needy User:)edited by Mod.

Kim, I deleted you email address, this is a public world wide forum, and I would hate to see you get spammed. Please know that any useful information that has been posted and can be provided here, is a safer way to go.
@Alexandru_BD besides what's already been posted, is there anything new to add to this discussion?
Thank you.

@Scott
Thank you for removing that email from my post but it shows in yours.
Is there a way for me to be notified via email when a response is received?
Nothing posted here has helped my inability to watch videos I watched recently.
Thanks again,
A Very Needy UserThank you, I took care of it :)

That's a very good question asked and a good way to go about it. Go to your Profile page and click on Account Privacy Settings (right hand side), then again on the right hand side is a Notification Preferences option, click that and on the left hand side scroll down to Posts, and it will give you both options if desired of an email notification and forum notification.
Cheers

You're welcome :)
Alexandru may reply tomorrow, but, we could still be at where this thread and it's solutions ended, so there may not be anything new to report.
You can contact support from here, tick How-Tos and Troubleshooting and go through the prompts until you get the black Contact Support box, then I would start with Chat, as they can head you in the right direction more quickly.

Or, you can simply visit Bitdefender support website @Scott, after 3-4 clicks, you'll ultimately reach the same website I stated. Hence, I made it a little simpler for you.
. Even if you visit the website mentioned bySelect, How to's & Troubleshooting Bitdefender products→Troubleshooting→I don't know→Contact Support→You will get the option of chat, call or email.

Hello @KimStruve,
The error message "Sorry, because of its privacy settings, this video cannot be played here" typically occurs on Vimeo when the video owner has set privacy restrictions that prevent the video from being embedded or played on external websites or platforms. This error is often encountered when someone tries to embed a video from Vimeo onto another website, and the video's privacy settings do not allow it to be played outside of Vimeo's own platform.
Here are a few reasons why this error might occur:
- The video owner has chosen to restrict access to the video, allowing it to be viewed only on Vimeo's website and not embedded or played elsewhere.
- Vimeo offers options for video privacy settings at the domain level. If the domain where the video is being embedded is not whitelisted by the video owner, the video will not play outside of Vimeo's platform.
- The video owner may have explicitly disabled embedding for the video, which means it cannot be embedded on external websites or platforms.
- Sometimes, the permissions granted for embedding a video might expire or be revoked by the video owner, leading to playback restrictions.
If you encounter this error message while trying to watch a video on a website other than Vimeo itself, it's likely due to one of the above reasons. In such cases, there isn't much you can do to override the privacy settings set by the video owner, as respecting these settings is crucial for protecting the content creator's rights and preferences.
IF you are encountering the error while trying to watch content on the Vimeo platform itself, it typically means that the video's privacy settings are configured to restrict playback in some way. The video may be set to "Private," meaning it's only accessible to users who have been granted permission by the video owner. If you're not logged in or if you don't have the necessary permissions, you won't be able to watch the video. The video owner may have restricted playback to specific domains. If you're trying to watch the video from a domain that is not authorized, you'll encounter this error. The video owner may have set restrictions on where the video can be played, such as limiting playback to certain regions or countries. If you're trying to watch the video from an unsupported location, you may see this error. The video may be password-protected, or the permissions have expired or been revoked by the video owner.
So as you can see, there are many possible reasons behind this and the antivirus may not actually be the culprit here. This is not something that's been happening for years, it's a behavior whose root cause may be related to any of the reasons explained above, including but not limited to the anti-tracker extension, as one of our members found out.
