How do I stop Bitdefender scanning DVD & Blu-ray discs?
Every time that I load a DVD or Blu-ray disc, Bitdefender insists on scanning all the files on the drive, making it impossible to use the actual disc. I can disable Bitdefender Shield for an hour at a time which temporarily solves the problem, but is there a way to permanently tell Bitdefender to ignore this drive? Adding the volume to exclusions doesn't work because each disc is named differently and therefore has it's own volume.

Apologies on my end, I forgot to check the OS version on the thread, and didn't realize the Mac version didn't have any ability to disable those options. I don't keep up with the Mac side of things, so you may want to contact Support. Chat can be the quickest way to head you in the right direction, phone support is not toll-free.

Hello @dignoe,
Indeed, Antivirus for Mac doesn't have a feature to scan CDs and DVDs that can be disabled, so these are being scanned by default. However, you can use the exceptions settings to exclude the full drive from scanning. Check the article below for step by step instructions on how to add an antivirus exception for Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac:

Thanks @Alexandru_BD, but this is not an effective solution. In my original post I said, "Adding the volume to exclusions doesn't work because each disc is named differently and therefore has its own volume." So I literally have to individually add every single DVD or Blu-ray to the exceptions list for this to work. I'm looking to be able to exclude the DVD drive altogether.
