Is this a SCAM? [Update: No, it's a genuine initiative by Bitdefender]

I just received an email from bitdefender@hello.bitdefender.com inviting me to participate in an online chat the week of December 16th, 2024 to share thoughts on the new digital experience on which BitDefender is working. As compensation for participating, they will deposit $70 in my PayPal account. The website to sign up starts with https://static-hello.bitdefender.com

Is this a SCAM?

  • I got the same email. Not sure. A bit suspicious, however

    Hello.

    bitdefender@hello.bitdefender.com is a legit Bitdefender e-mail address.

E-mails sent from that e-mail address contain special offers and product recommendations.

BUT, i've never heard of Bitdefender paying money for participating in an online chat.

Please, do not take any actions, until @Alexandru_BD, who works for Bitdefender, confirms if those e-mails are legit or not.

    Just wait for his answer.

    Regards.

  • I've received this email too.

  • I got in touch with Bitdefender support via chat, and they also find it strange that users are receiving emails like this, especially from the genuine email address bitdefender@hello.bitdefender.com. As of now, they have escalated the concern to the relevant department and advised not to reply to the email received until further investigation is completed. I will provide an update here as soon as I receive a reply from them. The timeframe to receive a reply from the relevant department is expected to be between 24-72 hours.

    Regards

  • I received the same e-mail last night at 12:00 am. Will wait for responses before taking any actions. Thanks

I received the same email yesterday as well. I tried to ask support for confirmation, but the "chat" was with a bot and was not helpful. But the bot did suggest I try the BitDefender Scamio too. I tried that as well but it did not confirm anything on the email itself. When I supplied the exact URL of the "sign up" link, Scamio said it was a legit URL but to be cautious. Bit Defender needs to get out in front of this and confirm or refute validity of this email.

  • Hello everyone and thank you for your patience.

First of all, I can confirm that this is a legitimate communication from Bitdefender, so there is no reason for concern here. Considering that we are approaching the end of the year and this represents a moment of reflection and also an opportunity to look into the future, there are certain development plans for next year and the following period, as such, the team wishes to validate certain initiatives with the Bitdefender users.

In conclusion, whoever is interested can sign up to find out more. I will not expand on this thread, because I don't want to spoil the surprise. 🙂
