Breakaway Audio Enhancer doesn't work with Bitdefender
I've used Breakaway Audio Enhancer for years, it's a software that improves the audio in your PC and I never had issues with it using Kaspersky, but today I switched to Bitdefender and Breakaway Audio Enhancer stopped working, this is the issue that I get when I try to open it:
Whatever is happening is a false positive, after installing Bitdefender I saw Breakaway Audio Enhancer in the quarantine section, and restoring it doesn't work because it says that the path could not be found, but the .exe is already inside the folder so there's nothing wrong there as far as I'm aware, but Bitdefender obviously did something to that program and now it doesn't work, and another user was having that same issue in the Breakaway Audio Enhancer forum:
I'm using Breakaway Audio Enhancer v1.40.03 which I bought 2 years ago. I'm up to date with Windows 10 and everything with the latest patches, how can I fix this issue? is there anyone else having that same issue?

Hi @Resus
That one drove me nuts. Below are two images from March 2022. At the time I was using BD AV Plus. I tried adding every Exception I could think of, and it still didn't work. It was not a repair or a reinstall issue (didn't help), it was from within BD itself.
I uninstalled BD, and it worked again. If you're using a version of Bitdefender that includes a Firewall, go into the Firewall settings and enable Alert mode. Restart your PC and see if you get a prompt to allow anything involved with Breakaway Audio. Otherwise, I would contact Support from the link below, go thorough the prompt until you reach the 3 support options. Chat can be the quickest way to get things started. They may need for you to create a log file, but I'll let them tell you what they need and when they need it.
IMO, Breakaway Audio is one of the best audio apps out there, it gave me the sound results I was looking for, over any free version. I never was able to figure it out, so I went with a different AV, and it worked. I had also used a different AV prior to Bitdefender, and never had an issue. Two other AV's never had that issue.
Good luck.

To add here, I downloaded the same software with the same version (Audio Enhancer v1.40.03) and uploaded it to VirusTotal. Bitdefender is not detecting the file as malicious. Below is the VirusTotal link for the same.

Wow, I can't believe this, I purchased Breakaway Audio Enhancer 2 years ago but I've been using that software for over a decade already and never had any issues with it, and Bitdefender is the only program I encountered so far that is giving me issues, I can't use my pc without Breakaway Audio Enhancer anymore because the default audio sounds like crap without it. I already enabled the alert mode in the Bitdefender firewall and nothing happened, I wasn't notified of anything when I tried to open Breakaway Audio Enhancer, I even tried it with the firewall disabled completely and nothing happened as well.
I didn't even want to use this goddamn Bitdefender AV, I was a Kaspersky user my whole life but I was forced to switch to Bitdefender yesterday due to the recent ban of Kaspersky. I'm currently using the 30-day free trial of Bitdefender to test this out and if everything goes well then I would purchase it, but this crap is giving me a headache on the very 1st day so I'm not going to purchase this piece of crap anymore.
What other AV are you using at the moment and which one do you recommend?

Have you tried setting the software as an exclusion in your Bitdefender product?
1) Temporarily disable Bitdefender Protection:
2) Set exclusions in Bitdefender Antivirus:
3) Set exclusions in Bitdefender Advanced Threat Defense:
4) Re-enable real-time protection in Bitdefender.

I was using Kaspersky Plus, but with Putin ramping up his insane war against Ukraine, I dumped it (pre US ban), then tried BD, and am now using F-Secure Internet Security. (their VPN is pretty poor, pass on that, i.e. in Total). Now, everything works as it should ;) :)
Word for word on this one, @Resus
"I can't use my pc without Breakaway Audio Enhancer anymore because the default audio sounds like crap without it".
I work out of my house, and Spotify is the heartbeat of my day, so giving up on BD in that regard, on that PC, was an easy call. I am not a fan of "making it work", when other AV's just flat out will. But, any AV can have certain issues on some devices :)
Kind regards.

All the things I had tried, but it may be worth a shot as far as it being 2+ years since, as far as myself.
I had tried adding Spotify, the sound card, and the Breakaway app into Exclusions, to no avail. Maybe disabling the Protection during adding the exclusions would have helped, but that pop-up was very strange, not associated with any app etc., just a debugger notification? That's where BD engineers may need the log files, which I wasn't willing to do, being so stubborn and all :) :)
Cheers

OMG, thank you! I was able to fix it following that advice and it was a simple fix, you simply need to know where to look to be able to fix it.
Yesterday I already added Breakaway Audio Enhancer to the exclusions list and it obviously didn't work, the problem is that I added it to the exclusion in the Antivirus section and this one doesn't work, what you really need to do is add it to the exclusion in the Advanced Thread Defense section and you need to add the .exe, not the folder.
And that's it! you fix it by adding the .exe in the Advanced Threat Defense exceptions, and making sure the "Advanced Threat Defense" option is turned on as you can see in the 3rd picture, once I did I could open Breakaway Audio Enhancer with no issues so at the moment, I'm happy, I just can't live without Breakaway Audio Enhancer man.
I will keep testing Bitdefender, my hardest struggle was already fixed, if everything goes well I will end up buying Bitdefender. I'm glad I came over here to post this issue because I was about to delete Bitdefender, I'm just glad I didn't.

And I'm glad you listened to @Flexx advice. A couple of years ago, I was at a loss, but now I know what to try, try it again :)
