How long does full system scan take?
Hello, I'm using a Mac, 3.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5, OS Ventura 13.7.4. As it was running a bit slow I decided to do a full system scan, So far this has been running for over 90 hours, has scanned 21 million files and only seems to be about half-way through. Is this normal?
Regards.

Kindly have a look at the link stated below.
That being said, 90 hours is definitely excessive for a full system scan. While scan times can vary depending on the number of files and system performance, taking this long suggests that something might be off. With 21 million files scanned and only halfway through, it seems unlikely to complete anytime soon.
I’d recommend stopping the scan and reaching out to support for further assistance, as there could be an issue with the scan process itself or something affecting system performance.
Kindly contact Bitdefender support by visiting
Select, How to's & Troubleshooting Bitdefender products→Troubleshooting→I don't know→Contact Support→ You will get the option of chat, call or email.
To get immediate update, make use of the chat option. Bitdefender support may require logs and will assist you in generating them.
Also, ensure you do not have any ad-blocker or privacy-blocker extensions enabled, as they might prevent the chat window from appearing.

Multiple posters recently encountered a problem with excessive scan times. Turns out there was an issue with Bitdefender AV for MAC, which was just addressed via an update. You can read about our experience here:
Not sure if the cause for your excessive scan time is the same, but it is possible. For me, all it took to resolve the issue was updating to the latest version of AV (i.e., 10.2.2.2.). If you are not running the latest version, it might be worth a try.
Good Luck. 🙂

Probie, thanks for trying to help me. How do I update Bitdefender? Sounds a silly question - I've tried and now have a message which says "Please try again later. The command has been sent & it's currently pending."
And where do I find which version I'm on?

To check the current version you are running:
~ open AV for MAC;
~ on the tool bar (upper left corner of screen), select "Antivirus for Mac";
~ on the resultant drop-down menu, select "About Antivirus for Mac";
~ the resultant pop-up window will display the current version.
If you need to update to the latest version:
~ open AV for Mac;
~ on the tool bar (upper left corner of screen), select "Actions";
~ on the resultant drop-down menu, select "Update threat information database";
~ after the update finishes, restart your computer and verify that you are running the latest version. In this case, 10.2.2.2.

Ah, how stupid am I, should’ve realised that! Now updated and running a scan. Will see how long it takes. Thanks for all the help.
