I subscribe to Bitdefender mailing list, and I use proton mail. However, the mails I get don't load anything. Please take a look at attached screenshot and tell me what I should do.
Hello,
I think it's possible that Bitdefender mailing list’s HTML uses externally-hosted images, as this is very common for newsletters, and ProtonMail is blocking those, and in this scenario the email may appear blank or only minimal content, like you have experienced. By default, Proton Mail may block remote images and external content tracking pixels, externally-hosted HTML images as part of its privacy focused design. If you are using it on the web, you can go to Settings → General (or Email Content) → Messages and enable Auto-load embedded images or Auto-show remote images.
Let me know if this did the trick.
Regards
I've check the setting, and it's already enabled. However, the mails still don't load properly.
Hi,
Ok, in this case maybe the emails are flagged, filtered, or their content blocked due to Proton Mail’s spam and tracking protection.. try to add the Bitdefender sender domain to your allow list:
https://proton.me/blog/how-to-whitelist-an-email-address
Also ensure that the emails are indeed landing in your Inbox rather than spam, and if they are in spam, move them to Inbox or mark safe so future ones are treated as safe. Another thing to check, if you’re viewing via a browser or via mobile app, ensure your browser or app isn’t blocking content. For example, if you are using ad-blockers, anti-tracking extensions, or strict privacy add-ons, they might interfere with newsletter content.
Done, but the problem still persists. At this point, I will subscribe using my other email.
I still think this has to do with Proton. I mean, you can try and forward that newsletter to another email address, for example Gmail or Outlook and check if the issue persists. If the content is displayed correctly there, then the way Proton mail handles that content is the issue..
Okay, I've tried forwarding it to my Gmail. To my surprise, my Gmail don't load it properly. I've tried on different devices (my PC and my phone), and both don't load it on Gmail apps and Gmail site on browser. My hunch is the issue is from the mail itself.
Now I realised one thing. Even if you forward the email, you would still have to download images or the full content previously on Proton mail, for the email to be forwarded completely, otherwise it will be forwarded exactly as you have initially received it, with missing content.. But sure, I will check the email template as well (I know they do some tests before actually sending these newsletters to the user base), so if I find anything, I'll let you know.
In the meantime, try to unsubscribe and subscribe again using a different email address and let's see how that goes..
I realized that my mailing list is tied to my Bitdefender account. I've tried looking at the site to look for anything to input my other email for subscription, but I don't find any mailing list subscription offer anywhere. Do I miss it, somewhere on Bitdefender site?
Yeah, that's correct, it is tied to your Bitdefender Central email address… the thing is, these cannot be changed separately, so you can't have one email address for correspondence and another one for your account. However, you can change the email address associated with your Bitdefender Central account anytime, but I don't know if this is something you would like to do just so you can keep this newsletter. But just know that it's an option. I checked and we haven't got any reports nor complaints for that particular newsletter (I think the content is related to mobile devices, and it comes with a trial for BMS if I'm not mistaken), so my hunch is still that Proton is interfering somehow, but I can't prove it right now.
Anyway, should you ever want to change your email address associated with Bitdefender, here are the steps:
