  • Nice. The unique device ID could also be used to disable the pop-up for specific trusted devices, instead of disabling scanning for all "USB media." I've got SD cards that contain my camera's pictures and videos only, backup drives that are the mirror of my already scanned internal drives, flash drives that I sometimes use…
  • USB devices have unique device identifiers, the exclusions should store that information together with the drive letter and use only the device identifier internally, as the USB device can be assigned a different drive letter dynamically, depending on the devices already connected. Even Symantec supports this, Bitdefender…
  • This bug looks like a perfect illustration of Murphy's Law. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. The design of the settings, dynamical or not, is so flawed that it introduced this bug in the first place. Now you tell me it's even worse than that, it makes it near impossible to fix such a basic feature (loading…
  • @vane1 You need to toggle the "Show Bitdefender Toolbar" setting ON and OFF manually after each reboot, even if it already shows as OFF in the Bitdefender settings. @Christian Come on, you're playing with words, "it should fix" means we could expect the update to fix the bug. In any case, "should" or "might" are not really…
  • I am REALLY disappointed, 15.0.35.1486 did not fix this bug, the toolbar wart still reappears after rebooting. I mean, is this one bug that hard to fix??? It's just a matter of reading the user settings, right? Christian, I am also disappointed at you announcing that this bug would be fixed in the next update. You had this…
  • Hi Christian, that worked for me. FullScreenAction was set to "1" in my gamemode.xml settings file, it is now set to "0". Maybe it works too well, even: I don't have events anymore for the screensaver or VLC full screen, but I don't have any for full screen games either, whether automatic game mode is disabled or enabled.…
  • Christian, I have a support tool data file that was snapped seconds after vsserv stopped stressing my hard drive and resumed to normal 0% CPU usage, I'll send it your way in a couple of hours when I can upload, as the previous file was snapped during normal operation, before vsserv started weirding out.
  • It takes a few minutes for the support tool to start running too, but it completes eventually. It's too bad that it doesn't say what it does, the progress bar is not very helpful and does seem to show it's stuck at first, even if it's not.
  • I posted exactly the same excerpts in some other thread a few months back, but you were complaining about the support people earlier, and none of this has anything to do with them or this thread, even if I agree with everything you say. The program managers for version 2012 should be fired, they're responsible for the…
  • Well this version was riddled with bugs from the start, the most horrible release since at least v. 2009, which is the one I started with, but some bugs are getting fixed, albeit extremely slowly. The scripting code injection when the toolbar is disabled, the "manual scan required" alert when Autoscan is enabled, etc. If…
  • I must say I totally agree on the privacy concern about the support tool. It says it is gathering Bitdefender related data, so I think if it has nothing to hide, it should go one step further and display what kind of data is being collected in the first screen, and maybe also display it as it is being collected, as the…
  • What do you know, maybe it's not so rare an instance after all, I just heard my hard drive magnetic heads dancing the rock 'n roll, and sure enough, vsserv.exe is regularly exceeding 30% CPU usage in Windows Task Manager. I even saw it jump to 39% once during the minute or so I watched it. Is the support tool file I…
  • Sent by PM. Do you mean you can't repro this on your side??? Note that Bitdefender services stopped working twice this week, and there was no such Autoscan completed event at least in the last one, I didn't check the first one.
  • Please note that by disabling those options when the screensaver is on, the laptop will consume less energy, improving battery life over a longer period. Not sure the issue is very relevant for laptops, which should be set to have their display turned off rather than using a CPU-intensive DirectX-based screensaver, but…
  • Well my computer hasn't entered game mode automatically since I enabled Auto Pilot, and I haven't played a game either. But I could repro with Auto Pilot off today and I confirm it does not repro with Auto Pilot enabled. I'll send you the files by PM later today. Thanks.
  • it should fix the injection of code when the toolbar is off That part is already fixed, I believe; only the reboot issue remains. Can't wait for the next update, but I am glad you are taking your time testing it heavily. Support calls over the Christmas break would be H ell! ^-^
  • Thanks, Christian. I suggest that, at least for the Windows platform, you talk to your Microsoft rep for guidelines on what's the best and most secure non-hack way to implement these silent installs, since they have recently done a lot of work in this area.
  • Oh, so it's Anglicized Christian now? ^-^ Welcome back, Christian! The issue is random and rare, so current logs would not help. Besides, the logs of the retail version don't show anything if I remember. I would need some debug version with much more advanced logging to see if we can pinpoint the issue. It's not something…
  • Yep, I think it was slightly different, but the same type of intrusive pop-ups. I must say I haven't seen any since back in August, and I appreciate the free service offer, but these should definitely come as events or preferably normal email notifications (with an option to unsubscribe), not as a pop-up on the user…
  • Weird, it says I don't have permission to use this feature when I click on your link, Gary.
  • What about those users (the vast majority) who are not? ^-^ Most mobile users with a wireless modem will probably have access to a WiFi spot at some stage during the day, so Bitdefender can wait for a few hours before proposing to disconnect, but even if they don't, it can't be that hard to restart the modem's software,…
  • Windows might have hidden it. Click on the "Show hidden icons" up arrow in the Notification Area, then on "Customize." Make sure the behavior for "Bitdefender Agent" is "Show icon and notifications." Bitdefender should preset this setting during installation. I don't remember if it did in my case, or if I did it manually.
  • Why? The bug is acknowledged being on the radar but not fixed yet. You can repro it yourself. Even if it was fixed without telling anybody, Bitdefender is self-updating, so there is no need to reinstall it. Otherwise, if it works after reinstalling but not self-updating, you are in real trouble.
  • You're quite right, you currently need to enable and disable the toolbar after each restart. When this restart bug is eventually fixed, it will fix two bugs with one stone. I'd love to hear a resolution date from Bitdefender at this time, more than four months after reporting the bug... I really like the VLC or Miro public…
  • Sorry @Nightgaunt, I meant the "Windows" folder you mentioned in your first post (parent of the "Cookies" folder). Copy and paste this line into the Command Prompt window as it is: cd /d C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windowsand press Enter, before entering the "dir /adhs" command. You don't need to replace…
  • I believe the closed threads are only the ones that are duplicate with the gray wart thread you commented on, to keep only one as reference and active. As for the code injection, I am not 100% sure, but I believe this has been fixed when the toolbar (gray wart) is disabled, if you can confirm. When it's enabled, the code…
  • That's weird, that folder should exist at the location you mentioned in all Windows 7 builds. Maybe there's a problem with displaying that folder, not with Bitdefender. Can you open a Command Prompt, cd to the Windows parent folder and type "dir /adhs"?
  • @craigt3365 The scheduled scans are not necessary anymore, since BDIS 2012 scans the computer constantly, whenever you are not using it intensively, when Autoscan is enabled. So you can now switch off your computer at night and save the planet. By the way, to close this thread: It's been more than 15 days since the last…
  • My experience too. Like the Windows search engine indexer, it takes a few days to scan everything, especially for media indexing, but it settles down after a while. The only difference with Bitdefender is that from time to time, a redesign or redefinition of the signatures might require a new scan of previously scanned…
  • I am not bored, I am mad at Bitdefender for forcing me to reset the toolbar manually after each reboot. Even madder that it's been over 4 months now since I first reported the bug, not even mentioning all the weeks of prior beta testing where not a single Bitdefender person even detected the bug. Either they don't do a bit…
