Finding Cookies In A Folder That Does Not Exist

For some reason my BD 2012 TS x64 running on Windows 7 Premium has started detecting the same cookies over and over again even once deleted from quarantine.

So tonight I decided to check the folder it was reporting they where in and it does not exist, even when showing hidden folders and files.

So then I tried to restore the cookies to see if the folder had been deleted and it is not there, basically BD is finding something that does not seem to exist on my machine creating even more annoying events and adding them to the quarantine folder.

I've also ran a full system scan which takes a full day to run and found nothing!

The folder the cookies are supposed to be in is:

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies

But the Cookies folder does not exist in the Windows folder at all.

Can someone please advise what is going on please?

Comments

  • It's done it again tonight after deleting everyting from quarantine again, the same 20 cookies flagged as infected file quarantined.

Can someone please respond to my problem please?

  • Thias issue is still happening, no response from BD staff after 3 days <img class=" />

    Hi :)

    Sorry for the delayed reply.

You have all the details about cookies in this KB article:

    http://www.bitdefender.com/support/What-ar...-threats-1.html

Also, please remember that not all browsers create cookies in that location.

    Take care.

  • I don't need to know what a cookie is I need to know why BD 2012 is finding cookies in a directory that does not exist on my PC over and over again.

FYI I'm using IE9 and have show all hidden folders and files switched on and the directory is not where BD2012 TS x64 is reporting it is.

When I do a full scan nothing is found anywhere on my PC but randomly these same cookies are being flagged up as an event and sent to quarantine.

    Hi

The folder is hidden in Explorer. You need to check Show hidden files and folders and you will that folder with cookies.

    Thank you.

If you had read my previous post properly you would have seen I have files and folders set to show all hidden, another reason why I have dumped BD2012 TS with almost a years worth of subscription still outstanding.

It's ironic that it has taken almost 2 weeks to still not get a decent response to this post and almost 6 months without a fix on others I have made but make one post about using a competitors software in favour of Bitdefender and you can get an instant response and a locked thread:-

You might as well close this thread too as I no longer use Bitdefender due to lack of response and not beign able to trust the software anyway. <img class=" />

  • That's weird, that folder should exist at the location you mentioned in all Windows 7 builds.

Maybe there's a problem with displaying that folder, not with Bitdefender.

Can you open a Command Prompt, cd to the Windows parent folder and type "dir /adhs"?

Well here are the results for what it's worth:

    Directory of C:\Windows

    05/09/2011 17:10 <DIR> ftpcache

    10/12/2011 10:49 <DIR> Installer

    0 File(s) 0 bytes

    2 Dir(s) 212,559,876,096 bytes free

As already stated I now no longer use BD2012 TS and have no intention of beta testing stuff on it from now on, I've had well over a year of that and it's cost me money.

hope this helps someone else although I wouldn't hold my breathe.

  • Sorry @Nightgaunt, I meant the "Windows" folder you mentioned in your first post (parent of the "Cookies" folder).

Copy and paste this line into the Command Prompt window as it is:

    cd /d C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows

and press Enter, before entering the "dir /adhs" command.

You don't need to replace the variable %USERNAME%, it will be done for you.

  • Try to remove the cookies as given instruction in this link :- http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?act...DE=01&HID=2 and see if same problem persists
