Hi DoomGaze, my wife uses Norton 2010, and it is much better than it's predecessors on resource usage and general annoyance. It is a good product if the user doesn't want to know what's going on. If you want full, precise control over your security product, I think BitDefender is the best option available. I do agree that…

I'm pretty sure BitDefender does not have an ad-blocker, just the anti-phishing module. I rely on browser plug-ins for ad blocking. Firefox + NoScript is about the best you can possibly do (incl. from a security perspective), but it takes some patience to auto-accept the websites that you want to function properly.

I had this problem at various times in the past (on Win XP, both 32 and 64 bit, if memory serves). The solution that worked for me was to disable the Windows Security Center, which is one source of the seccenter.exe process. I believe the steps to do so were: 1. In Windows Security Center, go to "Change what is monitored",…

Hi DanyDan, All, It took a few days of solid uptime with no rebooting, but the issue finally reoccurred this evening. I have run supporttool.exe as instructed in the support email I received and sent the produced data to Bitdefender customer care via reply to the same email. Hopefully there is sufficient information in the…

Go figure... within four hours of updating this post, the error happens again. Same software exception (0xc0000417), which causes an application error, then the service terminates. The app exception has the same time signature as a "Special Logon" successful security audit, but I do not know which process requested the…

Hi All, Thought I'd mention that I haven't had this issue in about a month. I see many other users have it on other threads, but it has disappeared for me. The only change I'm aware of is that BitDefender has been updated.

Hi All, One typo I made (and was unable to edit the original post): In the application error message, the software exception is always the same (0xc0000417), but the location changes (I think the location is the location in memory, so it depends on where the vsserv.exe file is stored in memory when the crash occurs).…

Chris, could you please confirm the engine version and the virus signature before we switch back on the anti virus - I have Engine: 7.38048 Virus sig: 5474032 and 4 computers with AV off - only one was badly affected. Many thanks for the quick response - It does not help having all the screamers here - In many years of BD…

dude I can't restore, please see attached! I had that happen to me once. When I browsed to the folder and tried again, it seemed to work. Do you have antivirus disabled when you try to restore?

The primary thread on this issue is here: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=18759. Apparently many Vista and 7 x64 users are affected.

hey, I just registered that forum just to tell you guys that my 2 computers running win 7 x64 are affected, that started at 12pm EST my first computer has about 50 system files quarantine that I cant restore, the 2nd has 2 both are now antivirus disabled I really find that unacceptable to have that type of bug on a…

Same problem here, updated this morning and now many random things are considered viruses (including the usbstor.sys windows driver!). This is on Win7 x64 ultimate. I have active virus control enabled on aggressive setting. Virus sig: 5494847 engine version: 7.30856 This is a major issue that needs to be solved asap.…

I am using Windows XP with BitDefender 2010 Internet Security installed, Google Chrome, Adobe PhotoShop Elements 5.0 (I don't think it is 5.0.2). I tried opening PSE 5 this morning and go the same error message described. I looked at other posts and thought removing Google Chrome would work. It did not. But what did work…

I wanted to mention that this solution worked for me on Win 7 Pro x64. While I appreciate a solution, this isn't something I would expect customers who aren't tech-savvy to do.

Just wanted to add that I had this same issue on BD IS 2009 on WinXP 64bit. The posted solution worked for me, too. Another computer of mine running BD IS 2009 on WinXP 32bit did not have this issue.

Hi All, I'm having the same problem using BD IS 2009 on WinXP 64-bit. Auto-update errors out with an invalid MD5, and has been for about 4 days now. I have tried different update servers, and have also uninstalled and reinstalled the program multiple times. My wife has the same version on her laptop (WinXP 32-bit) and does…
