I updated to Sierra and BitDefender would no longer update its database (error -1008). On the menu bar, the icon kept saying "Restart to Upgrade". I restarted multiple times, but it never upgraded. Mac AV, version 2.30. I've scheduled a full system scan to run at 2am. At this time my MacBook Pro is in sleep mode (lid closed). Shouldn't the scan still start on time? When I open my MBP at 5PM, they scan is running, but it's only about 10% complete.
