ShieldSecureAV scam

zeb9000
zeb9000 Mr.

ShieldSecureAV is a company that pretends to offer Bitdefender products at a great discount. However, it is purely a scam operation. Once you've paid them, they refund a part of the amount paid and keep around 5$. I can only assume these scammers believe their victims will bot bother contacting their credit card company.

Always buy Bitdefender products from either the official Bitdefender website ( https://www.bitdefender.com/ ) or authorized Bitdefender partners ( https://www.bitdefender.com/partners/partner-locator.html )

Talking about discounts, you can get in touch with Bitdefender support by visiting https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/help to see if they can help you in providing any discounts.

Select, How to's & Troubleshooting Bitdefender productsTroubleshootingI don't knowContact Support→ You will get the option of chatcall or email.

Additionally, if you know the SecureShieldAV website, you can share it with the malware research team to get it blocked by filling out the form in the link below.

  • Hi @zeb9000,

I'm sorry to hear this. Thank you for sharing your experience here, this helps us raise awareness.
I would also advise what @Flexx suggested, to report the page to the Bitdefender Labs as well, to see if they can block it. Using the search bar in the community I was able to locate another thread on this topic:

  • It has been a few weeks past now and I do not monitor this site much.

But, to update my original alert. I did dispute the charge with credit source and funds were refunded.
End of matter. It was a minor amount, but resistance seems important. Even if SecureShieldAV is a legitimate business, their online practice seems overly deceptive and manipulative.

The problem of boundaries and where to place them between advertising, which is a manipulative process and somewhat deceptive by nature, is thorny. Going too far in the control of it by government and legal measures can also be a significant problem. A balanced approach seems better, but who decides the balance?
