Chrome unstoppable virus warning popups

Opening the Chrome browser causes a column on the right side of my screen to display a continuous series of popups warning of virus infections on my windows 11 pc. As soon as you close one, another opens, close it, another opens, etc. They stack on top of each other to fill the right side of my screen. These are not within the browser window. They pop up on the desktop, covering the right side of the terminal.
Has anyone seen or heard of this?

Yes. Adware. Fake infection messages. Pretty common these days.
